Hi. I'm looking to buy a Disco 2, can you tell me what the difference is between the GS and ES models... I think it's mainly the leather ( Automated ) and premium sound system. Obviously I'd like the top spec, but prefer a lower mileage solid GS. Or is there something else I should be thinking about?
Many thanks

Try and look for one WITHOUT Ace as it's expensive to repair! They did make them with torsion bars fitted front and back but not sure which models. The pipe work associated with ace is vulnerable to rust, oil leeks etc. this is an mot fail and not a easy job to repair. My garage advises customers to fit the non ace kits for the D2.

Depends if the pipes are OK, if they are no need to avoid it

I have ACE on my ES and its brilliant though I might change my mind if pipes corrode. My specialist says that's the time to ditch it all and fit anti roll bars which isn't as good but does ok. Its all about chassis as the others say. I looked at some 2004 models and they were knackered. They go along the bottom seam and just blow apart. A fresh MOT and loads of underseal seemed the norm when this had happened. If you get one Id recommend a remap as it makes a world of difference.

mine is covered in waxoyl! in fact a fortnight ago i lifted it up with the telehandler and shot 4 litre of liquid grease in side the chassis as we had been servicing a machine and i wasnt gonna waste it, these chassis need saturating,

If I were buying again, I'd buy a basic S spec (with no sunroofs!!) then retrofit a second hand good condition ES leather interior.

Best of all worlds! I'm not sure I'd even miss the aircon tbh.

I have had my 2004 es primium since 2006 they all have little faults but will not be changing it anytime soon

I have a basic S model. No ACE to go wrong, no sunroof to leak. Was spec'd with dual zone climate control from new, which is very useful. Not missed any other "luxuries" tbh, but we're all different!

I love the sunroofs, last car did not have one, fixing the leak was not that bad a job either.
