has anybody got any recommendations for 'sensible' insurance for a 58 reg defender 90, - for a 18 year old; i know im not going to be paying penny's for this but current quotes of 7k are outrageous, ideas?

i've tried nfu, - have to be 21 (or parents had a policy for 1 year+)
Adrian flux - have to be 19

i am 19 in January but with the winter predicted to be worse than it was last year a Astra won't cut it (located in the lake district)

the car was bought for me and is sitting in the garage currently

Also; it has four brand new mud flaps (taken off when it was new) all the bolt's are there but there are 4 black thick washers, any ideas what they are? i was thinking for electro chemical corrosion or something like that? i will be using full stainless steel bolt kit for the mud flaps..

cheers

hi, yes, most threads where outdated, considering how much insurance has changed recently.

you should tell the muppets that paid for the landy to buy you a nicer astra instead, least you might be able to afford to insure that

and that is meant to mean.....?

im just asking for ideas for a insurance company is that too much?

Don't take it too seriously lad, some people on here, well lets just say their wrapping is a little loose.

Get a thick skin a sense of humour and you'll be fine.

The insurance 'phone up, don't rely on comparison(sp) sites.

Is it garaged? What security? Put Mum on as second driver...Good Luck

Try ringing Dan Cameron at A-Plan Schemes dept, Tel 0845-0711234 (charged at local rates) or 01635 -879910.

Tell him that you are on the Landyzone and give him your username

Dont bother, just pay the stupid 200 quid fine and even if you get caught 32 times a year you're still in profit.

And use a beer mat as a tax disc.

yeah cheers, i was just wondering if there was any specalist insurers along the lines of nfu, flux...

its garaged, getting a tracker etc

Try Lancaster. All my ncb is on my car so none to use on my v8 disco and although I am older than you I was surprised how cheap they came through, around half what everyone else quoted

i did look before posting, a lot is out of date, i.e. before nfu etc changed there policy etc...

Theres one from last week and a couple from 2 weeks ago so no they are not out of date

Try ringing round, do multi car quotes with your parents, or use the phonebook and find some brokers

i know of two threads in the last week about a young guy looking for help with insurance for a defender.
I don't browse the defender section of the site at all.

This would suggest there are a lot of articles about insurance for young people on defenders.

Also bear in mind that a lot of people on here would never be able to afford a near new defender despite working very hard to make a living. Therefore for a young person to come on complaining that he can't insure his near new defender and how hard life is is a bit of a kick in the teeth.
