I'm looking for somewhere near Swindon (Wooton Bassett) to do some work and service my P38, obviously not looking for a main stealer, would prefer a positive recommendation for a 4x4 specialist or someone who knows there way around a Range Rover and is equipped to do the airbags etc.

Does anyone here have a recommendation? Or is able to point me in the right direction

You have a couple of options. Swindon 4x4 behind Dick Lovetts - I haven't had anything done there but they happily put my LSE on the ramp to look at the diff for me and suggested a couple of things. All FOC.

Ridgeway 4x4 which is on the road between Wharf road (currently closed) in Wroughton and Old Town. I know nothing about them.
Both these 2 I would imagine could do airbad stuff.

Lastly in Bassett there is a small garage opposite the LR main dealer next to the petrol station. Chap called Rett runs it/owns it. I doubt he can do the airbags, I could be wrong, but for standard servicing he is more than capable and certainly has good experience of classics. I don't know about P38s but should be ok I imagine. He's usually there till gone 6 so just swing by and have a chat.

Simon has shut Swindon 4x4,and is now working for someone else in Swindon,dont know where.Richard at Ridgeway 4x4 is in the middle of opening a new shop,he is probably your best bet at the moment.
 
I only spoke to Swindon 4x4 just before xmas - he always seemed busy to me. Thanks for the info though, saves me wondering what is what when I can't reach them.
 
Pity about Swindon 4x4 they also did some work for me - again free of charge, perhaps that's why they are no longer in business :rolleyes: shame - very helpful people.

Anyway, if it's airbags & service you are after my local garage can do that, he deals with a lot of RR and Land Rovers generally as we are a bit more out in the sticks. Very reasonable prices - did my airbag recently good job.

Out of interest how much did you pay for getting your airbags done? Was it both sets?
 
trying not to spam but i do a mobile service and can come to you and do all the items you require please contact if you are intrested.
 
Hanoverian. I paid (I think £45) an hours labour. This was because I expected to do a quick fix myself & bought the airbag already. but so may bits were siezed up I thought sod it so took it to Steve. The bag cost about 50-60 I think it was from Uk Parts.
If I fix the other prob with the car (intermittent cut-out) I expect to be replacing the whole set with Arnott Gen II airbags - seem to be well worth it from reviews I have read.
 
Good news for LR owners in the Swindon area,Simon is now at Sheer value Cars, phone 01793 978226. They are still in the business of LR repairs and still have their Testbook T4. Their workshop is now fully operational and ready to take bookings.
 
Heard back from Sheer Value, confirming Simon's there. Have just emailed them with a more detailed list of what needs doing, hoping to hear back soon with a ball park figure. The only thing that concerned me was that as a Britpart agent they prefer to use Britparts. Will keep you posted if you're interested, they quoted £47.50 per hour, how does that stack up locally as I'm not from the area

They need to be good for that. Steve Bull in Devizes who I use for another car charges £50 and they know exactly what they are doing for those cars.

That amount is fine as long as there is no messing around and what they say will be done, is.

Simon has a good reputation as long as he is allowed to get on with things.

Where are they? I searched for the phone no and only found a skip hire co!
 
There s a great garage in Salisbury, He worked for a main dealer, and could not stand the shoddy attitude and gross over charging, So opened up, and is always booked a full week in advance.
