Hi all,
Have a Volvo V70 atm and toyed with getting a 4x4 before but settled for V70, got stuck in snow over yorkshire way a few weeks ago and had to be towed out by a jcb, so lass and I decided a used Landy was the way forward as we live in the country and play here to. We have an Irish setter dog and another on the way so we need a car with enough boot space so after looking about a bit was thinking maybe a Discovery, got 10,000 to play around with but I know absolutely nada about Landys and 4x4 in general, thus my being here.

Hoping I can get some guidance of you good people of the car that would be best suited to our needs. Look forward to chatting with you:)

Disco gives a good mix of comfort and off road capability - and avoids the **** taking that buying a Freelander receives:D

£10k should buy you a really good one

If you decide you want a Defender instead, this guide will help you avoid some pitfalls

Defender Buyers Guide

Oh, and :welcome:

Thanks! yeah i would think a freelander would be too small for us anyway with 2 big dogs and of course wouldn't want to be the subject of **** taking :D

What are the Discos like on diesel?

****. I get anywhere between 18-32 on mine depending on time of year and how heavy my foot is on that day

Only ever driven chums Discos so wasn't worrying too much about how much doozil they drunk:D

My Landy is a 1994 90 300TDi which is used for airedales x 2, stables and taking stuff to the tip rather than my daily drive - that averages between 25 - 28 mpg but to be honest that's mainly short runs around country lanes.

Would guess you'd be looking at 32 mpgish, but either use the search button or post the question on the Disco section and I'm sure someone will correct me

Defender hold there money more but it will be a huge step down from the V70.
Disco is very nice and should cater your needs.
But 10k on a disco to put big dirty dogs in the back???
Defender might be right??
Only you will know.

Thanks for replies. Think it's more of a family car/off-road will be the one, am thinking am looking at a Discovery. Need the space in back for dogs and the comfort for me and lass and baby on way at least getting stuck in snow wont be a worry.
