Well one of them has stopped charging and the other is now making strange noises like a bearing is going ..so am now looking to get another

You have the answer in front of you.
The non charging one will almost certainly be due to worn brushes. So simply replace them with the ones from the other one, and save a fortune.
And it's a dead easy job.

Changing bearings is easy. Non charging could be brushes, regulator, diode pack or winding failure.

Have decided to buy a new on ,,them make one good one from the other two and keep it as a spare..
