This may be because although emission related VED applies from 2001, another band was introduced in 2006 to apply (non-retrospectively) to high emission vehicles.

Z z4cAtS Member Jan 9, 2016 #5 Mine was registered 13 days after the new band was introduced. Still worth it though, is a fab car even with it's foibles.
