That's very interesting, to be fair I think our difference is because my Mrs chooses to pay the extra and go with direct line instead of doing what I do and spending a whole day finding the cheapest possible quote from a backstreet insurer through compare the market etc, who usually include that many excemptions and terms it's impossible to read through them all! I think the saying 'you get what you pay for' strongly applies when buying motor insurance.

Allianz offers SDP with or without commuting. you have to say when insuring. It is always wise to assume that you're not covered for anything that isn't specifically stated on the policy docs, and that with all insurers, they'll try to avoid paying on everything. Stated or not, in the event of a claim..

Direct lines policy on commuting (from their website FAQ's)

Direct Line's Social, Domestic and Pleasure policy cover includes commuting. This allows you to drive to and from a permanent place of work.

By 'permanent' place of work, we mean a single office, site, location or place of work that you intend to travel to for the duration of your contract of employment.

If you are employed, for example, on a 3 month contract and will only be travelling to one location/site/office during the term of your contract, then Social Domestic & Pleasure is sufficient.

Please check your policy documents to confirm your level of cover.

It's also not the view of North Wales Plod as they did a road side stop a few years ago, outside Gywnedd Hospital and did all the care workers and midwives etc who had SDP no insurance, as well as a fixed penalty for not having a "No Smoking" Sign in their own cars :mad2:

What sort of sick Plod takes pleasure from slapping fines on care workers and mid wives?!!!

Plod who are being told to top up the pension pot? (This is a joke, and may/may not be my personal view)

This is very interesting, and you've caught me out pikey!! I just looked at direct line FAQ's and found that business cover is automatically included on all direct line policies unless you are a mechanic/courier/student/housewife and a few others - no mention of care worker. So it seems I wasn't actually correct. Care workers beware, unless you're with direct line.

I thought you only needed business insurance if you carried the client you were caring for to health, welfare or activity appointments?.

Thats not been my experience (ex was a Mental Health support worker) and it's not what The Go Campare site advises.

They sound a right bunch of bastards

Yep same cnut that uses a picture of a decapitated biker, in a road safety campaign. But doesn't bother to inform his wife or family/ So his children who know only that he was killed in a crash. Suddenly find out the horrific injuries he sustained. When Asked why he hadn't informed the family he made some remark about not beenb answerable to anyone but God, Or summat along that line.

Also had a reporter arrested and detained overnight for following him home and clocked him speeding, (well his police driver) also photo'd him using said police vehicle and driver for personal use.

Guy is a complete ****er. Bearing in Mind, North Wales relies heavily on tourism in his first year on the job. He raised £5million in fixed penalty tickets. God knows how many peeps stayed away and thus deprived the local economy of their money.

SHE WAS INSURED WITH AXA gave them a call too make sure it has cost me an extra 12p a month for commute and business too be added to her policy so at least in the other car she is covered

wow wow bollocks I answered a question about the insurance no need too make a ####ing issue over it she ####ed up, the original question was would youe build or sell if you have nothing too add don't bother and carry on watching button moon

I wernt trying to be smart etc by saying that.... Was just saying try to protect yourself by taking the reg out the picture as insurers are snakes

Well the focus is paid for and being done as we spek decided to break the disco as i havnt the time toi rebuild or think its worth doing going too put old plates back on and when done will post add for parts

Ive just read through this insurance thing with interest. First things first...LAMPRO, i'd fix the disco pal. Looks like a really tidy motor until the missus got hold of it, lol. As ppl hqave said, parts should be easy enough to get hold of, maybe you'll get lucky at a 4x4 breakers and find one in the same colour saving yourself that cost, all looks to be bolt on parts bar the light box/slam panel, but they should be hammerable.

Regards the insurance, I recently renewed mine, did it online and just went with the lowest. I listed most of the mods and then when they rang to confirm, I told them about the bumper and winch (i couldn't add them online) and they then told me that the company I was going with wouldn't insure me to drive to and from work with those extra mods??? Made no sense to me whatsoever.
