Hi all. Looking for some advice on electrical gremlins. A while ago my locks on my DSE Y2K started to lead a merry dance at will. Then my driver window stopped working and the drivers door lock failed to operate on the fob. The tailgate also stopped working. I was advised by local specialist that the RF receiver was the culprit. Eventually the fob wouldn't operate the locking and the message centre would request a button press on the keyfob before engine would start. I ended up getting the keycode lockout message and I had to obtain the EKA from main dealer. Long story short, after disconnecting blue wire from RF and using the EKA I've managed to get the fob locking and unlocking all doors, although unlocking takes multiple pushes of the fob button and the drivers window now functions again. I had already ordered a good used RF receiver and it arrived today. I fitted it and connected the blue wire back up to it. Now I can operate the fob from a further distance but I still have to press the unlock button multiple times to get it to function. Also, I still have the door locks in merry dance mode and the tailgate still wont unlock.

Any ideas anyone before I loose my sanity and my almost empty bank balance?.......

You needed to buy the new type rf reciver updated version or cut blue wire and operate fob close to rear driverside window wifi signals are playing havoc with your car

You do not need to cut wire-just pull the connection

Hi all. Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately I have already disconnected the blue wire but the locks were still dancing. Since fitting the replacement Receiver and connecting and disconnecting blue wire, still the same....
Could the tailgate lock or a doorlock be the cause ?????

Did you get the uprated version?? If not that's why the blue is the arial if there that close its not going to improve if signals are strong !
Get the new version !

Yes your tailgate lock could cause these issues.
Datatek has reported his locks operating whilst he's driving and manages to clear it, for a while, by slamming his tailgate shut.

The multiple presses required on the key might indicate that the buttons on the key are wearing. Does the LED in the key light every time that you press?
Then check that your tailgate is latching correctly, check the tailgate button spring is in one piece and that the button is not full of water or crud and that the tailgate internal mechanism is free to move and that the solenoid is operating.

Island had a cheaper one but I can't find it on there site when you do a search for it it says updating web page??

Yeah I contacted them a few weeks ago about it and they said this:

Island 4x4 said:
No stock they are on restriction. I can order them to chassis number but Land Rover charge full retail for them £202.00 plus VAT

There's a known problem that several people have had with the tailgate button. Causes the locks to operated randomly and to cause lockouts. Press and hold it until it cycles and eventually opens then take it out and clean it.

How does all this explain the fob not working as long as his battery's were fine !

Ah, I didn't say it did! :)

But... when mine played up, the car was completely locked and the keyfob didn't work at all. Pressing and *holding* the tailgate, cycled the lock until it eventually fired them all in to life and then the keyfob worked again.

I was locked out for 2 days the first time and my 8 yo daughter, playing with the tailgate, opened it. Then more recently, the locks started operating on their own. More and more. Then it locked me out. I got in via the tailgate, but still ignored it. Then it locked my wife out and she complained. Again, the tailgate let her in despite the keyfob not working. Once in, the keyfob was ok again.

I've had it apart and cleaned it and its been ok since.

Maybe it is sticking in a way that is holding the locks or removing power? I don't know, just reporting back....

ok thanks nik worth a try cheaper than an rf reciver don't see how its linked but you never know .

Thanks for all the reply's everyone. You've all given me some very usefull pointers...... Nikthegeek, you were spot on about the tailgate button. Held it pressed for just over a minute and it fired and opened.....Phew... took off the tailgate cover and took out the button unit cleaned it and put it all back together. Now fob works perfectly and all central locking is functioning as it should. Engine now fires up without having to press the fob with key in ignition. Lesson learned. Always make sure the tailgate is closed with a proper slam and routinely clean the tailgate button:)......Thanks all.....
