Hello All

Well I am in the poo well and truly!

My 2005 L322 Vogue has taken a dislike to me. I stupidly loaned the car to a mate. The car was cross at my lack of loyalty and promptly locked him out.

Maybe he left the lights on - don't know as he is in Teeside and I am now in in Swansea.

They tried the key in the lock
They tried the hidden lock trick (in the handle - nothing there)
They tried the RAC
They tried pulling the door out with an inflatable bag and pulling door handles and bonnet catches.
They tried getting the grill off
Nothing worked

I have been told the only way is to smash a window - expensive! In fact not just that but the car has an after market tint so I would have to either match that tint or take the tints off and re tint - VERY expensive!!

I have also been told that there is a way to attach current via the light but that might fry the electrics - so I said no to that.

So I am stuck - what do I do?

1.Irish black ski mask.
2. Paper wrapped half brick.
3. Running Shoes.
4. Look shocked and annoyed when a neighbour or policeman says did you drop your keys.:rolleyes::D:mad:.
 
Crawl underneath and attach a battery charger, positive to the big cable on the starter motor and negative to the chassis, and wait for the battery to recover enough to unlock. Jump leads and a big battery might also do the trick but is a bit more risky..

Got a feeling it is tucked up out of reach on the L322. @Saint.V8 or @holidaychicken would know better.

Does it have towing electrics with the permanent live?

Take care back feeding from the towing connector, I have a feeling there is an ECU involved. Having stuffed the care with unnecessary ECU's LR were hard put to find a place for one more, but i think they managed it:rolleyes:

Good point. The L322 seems to have electrics from hell. I'm hoping Saint or HC will come to the rescue!
 
The only way i know that has worked is attaching 12 volts to the starter main cable and negative to earth as @Datatek says although not entirely straight forward. i know where the starter motor is on the 4.4 M62 engine. You would need to jack the front of the car up and put it on axle stands etc.

This is assuming it is a problem with the vehicle battery and not your alarm fob.

if you brake a window and it is super locked you may have a range rover that you can't do anything with and a broken window.

I have read about an emergency release cord to open the rear tailgate which is mentioned in the comment here


but I don't know any more than that i'm afraid.

There are reports of powering the vehicle through the fog light or indicator so you can use the remote fob to unlock the car.

Trouble is, if the key is out of sync with the car, this *may* not work.

The L322 (along with Bimmers of similar vintage) had issues with the mechanical linkage between the lock barrel and the lock mechanism and microswitches - it is prone to fail, meaning the key will just turn in the lock barrel but not actuate anything such as the mechanical part of the lock, or the switches to unlock via central locking....

When you turn the key in the mechanical lock, does it just turn with no resistance (except spring pressure) or can you fell a detent?

Also, when my bonnet cable snapped at the join under the bonnet, I managed to get the bonnet open by using hooks through the grill to snag the bonnet release cable and yank on them to release the bonnet, they are tucked up under the slam panel and needs a bit of patience to get hold of them....remember there are two bonnet latches and the cable is linked to both, so ensure once you have unlatched one, you yank again to unlatch the other.
