Hi,

This morning the rear right door doesn’t want to open. The handle doesn’t do anything. I haven’t managed to open it, from inside or outside.

I will remove the door trim.

Any suggestions about how to open it.

I managed to get a screwdriver up behind the lock inside the door with the trim removed & flick a catch at the rear top end of the lock which released it and the door opened - maybe a fluke but worth a try

Hi

Finally I get it opened, after removing the door trim … thinking of buying an other car …

The electric door latch only lock the door  so need replacement. This is only the second one failing on this car …

Also there is a serious security issue, if you can't open the door manualy if the electric lock fails.

All modern cars are the same. For security there has to be a way to disconnect the inside and outside release handles when the car is locked. Insurance companies demanded that vehicle manufacturers reduced the incidents of vehicles being stolen, so all cars went to over to using electronic deadlocks. The Freelander 1 is pretty simple to defeat if you can have enough time in the vehicle with tools.
On a newer vehicle, the lock basically impossible to break into if it fails, unless of course you're prepared to cut a hole in the outside door panel to be able to access the lock.

I can't see why it's a security issue if you know the lock has failed. You just replace it, but drive carefully before you have a chance.
