hi guys i am looking for the timming marks for strobing on pulley cant find any also is there writing on the pulley once i clean it up or is there a scribed line im looking for cant see nothing. any help please oh.i got a discovery 1996 3.9v8

There should be a set of scribed marks equally spaced on the crank pulley, give it a good clean and they should appear!

On the crank pulley there is a deep notch and the marks are to the left of that if you are looking down on the pulley from the top.

So as the crank turns clockwise, you should see the notch then the marks, and also text saying 'before' and 'after'.

HI GUYS YES FOUND THEM A GOOD BIT OF EMERY PAPER. I HAVE SET IT TO 7 DEGREES b4 top dead centre dont know weather this is the best place for mine as it runs on lpg and to be fair this has always ran well on both as some people complanin of it eaither runs well on petrol and rough on gas or visaversa. any ideas on this . i have tried it and its responsive with a slight hesitation from 8000rpm tick over.

I presume you mean 800rpm tickover :D

I run mine on quite a bit of advance as I always use LPG, except to get the car started. LPG burns slower so needs more time to combust before the expansion stroke starts hence more advance. Every engine is different though and it's a case of finding where yours seems happiest, but doesn't pink when running on petrol.

hi jonnier yes 800rpm lol yes see i did read on google that some guys run it 7 degress just b4 tdc so i put it there .also im going to put those brisk spark plugs in got a really good write up.

m6..junction 10 , drive 3 miles turn left at post box...2nd right...house number 33..ask for john...he has marks..(dont tell anyone, he abit shy)

regards

I've read in some forums of people running as much as 16 btdc, depends on how you use the car.

Think 6 btdc is a common setting for a petrol only engine
