Quick question.

Are the engine mounts slightly offset? I ask because the engine mount on the left as stood at the front looking in is about 20mm further back. Normally I wouldn't question but the previous owner has splattered bird **** at them rather than actually welding em! So quality of work might suggest that the location is incorrect.

It's a g reg 90 that I believe has been changed to a v8 by previous owner. Checkered history unfortunately

picture attached. left side looks much further back. not sure if this is normal.

mounts arent in std lr v8 position if they were the rear edge would align with rear most bracing going across the top of chassis rail for turret support

Theres a lot of pigeon **** on there

hehe yeh there is, it was actually covered over with some kind of tooth paste to hide the atrocity beneath.

Is the best thing to remove the mounts and bolt to the engine, lower in and bolt to bell housing. then scribe where they should be or tac em on, take the lump back our and re weld. or is there i diagram somewhere for the location?

I didn't think both were wrong, just the left on the pic being too far back.

checked to get some replacement brackets and can't find any that look the same which is odd

might explain why the gearbox was sat wonky on its mounts.

If your gearbox crossmember is where it should be cut off the engine mounts, fit the engine and gearbox as a unit, bolt up the box and then weld on the mounts for the engine in situ

fooookin ell...chop em off, grid it back...do as doc suggests.(but just tack them on untill you pull engine out to weld properly).in da long run it will be quicker and certainly much better...(if you can weld that is)

Cheers boys,

Gearbox crossmember is one of them tubular ones (appears bolted on)

Ill lob em off and tack em on and see how she fits. I can weld better than mr pigeon ****. but a mate is a fabricator so could get him to.

hi all. i got some new engine mounts Link and using the instructions tacked em on to the 'factory' location. the bell housing is about 2 inch further back.

I have had a look underneath at the gearbox brackets and it looks like its in the right place. i can't move the gearbox further forward as there are some brackets holding the body on in the way. should really get some pix but its ****ing down at mo.

i thought as per the last two posts suggestions to weld on in situ while bolted to the bell housing but i wanted to make sure thats ok since the brackets will be on the curved part of the chassis and not the flat bit.

put my balls on the table

measured each side of bell housing to the front crossmember to make sure it was square. it was.

took clutch off and chucked the lump in, bolted to bell housing and positioned the mounts. tacked on.

removed engine and welded, cleaned and painted. mounts are slightly different each side but measuring the brackets on the lump seems to show they are slightly different too.

Job done.

How high or low does the mount site on the chassis leg. About to do this myself and don't want the axles hitting the sump or the bonnet not closing.
