Hi all I've searched the forum but cannot find the location of the VIN chassis stamp for my '98 TDi 300 Disco.

I thought it was on the RHS chassis rail just in front of the front axle but it doesn't appear to be there.

I know on the DII's it's at the rear RHS on the chassis so I looked there as well but no luck.

Anyone know where it should be for a TDi 300 Disco?

Cheers
Dave

Rear right hand outrigger on my lhd 95 disco 300tdi if that helps, took some finding and scraping to read. Hth

Thanks for that DP, I'll go and have another look. So just to be clear, we are talking about the RHS rear and the outrigger which goes from the chassis to a body mount? Is your number on the front side or the rear side of the outrigger?

Dave

Iirc it's on the rear face, and can be seen through the rear wheel arch. And yes it's the outrigger to the body mount.

Well I've just been to have a look. Just the rear wheel off for better access and scraped away like a good'un.

If it ever was there, it's not there now.

I'm only bothered about this as it was drawn to my attention by the Contrôle Technique man. It's important over here that the chassis is stamped, so I'll have to buy myself a stamp kit I suppose.

Also worth checking the front chassis leg on the RH side where the steering box is(assuming you are RHD a this point) Mine is here on a 200Tdi.

I get the feeling there was a somewhat cavalier attitude towards chassis stamping at Land rover during the building of disco 1s, or maybe full stop.

Think so as it was on the front chassis leg on the 1998 V8 Disco that I broke last year also.

Just wanted to update - nothing to report because it's so feckin' cold outside.

- 10° C and dropping.

Will report back when the weather let's me!
