I want to line the load space on my Defender with plywood. Whats the ideal thickness to use. I have a sheet of 18mm, and may be able to pick up a sheet of 6mm tomorrow. I also plan to cover it all with a roll of black chequered rubber I have.

Also what is the best method of fixing it down? I was thinking of sealing the edges anyway, so wonder if No Nails or similar could be used. I can also get this free gratis.
 
I was thinking of lining the back of mine when I get time.

I will probably use that resin covered ply which they use on trailer floors etc. Then do the external and internal angles with alli angle.

I'd go with 18mm.
 
Most of the kits you get for vans are 6mm for the sides and door, 9mm for the floor. Isn't 18mm a bit overkill?
 
I'm with Steve, 18mm seems a little over the top just for lining, I've only got 12mm on the floor of my van and that takes a hell of a kicking
 
One advantage of going with a thinner ply is that it's bendy so you can pop it in more easily and it'll conform to the contours of the vehicle. 18mm might be a bit rigid just for a lining. Mind you, you could make a nice set of cupboards or toolboxes for your load area with it.

I like that idea....weekend of head scratching coming up methinks.
 
Why bother with the ply at all. Just stick ths matting direct to metal. No worry about water getting in then.

Wheel box sides are a bit bashed up back there. The ply should tidy things up, and Insulate/sound deaden it a bit as well I would think.
 
Our lads ply line the backs of their vans and also build a bulkhead outta it. Ill try n get a pic on monday.
