Hello everyone. Advice has been amazing so far, thanks very much.I have followed all the tips so far, including cleaning LOADS of gunk from EGR and Manifold.Makes a nice difference, but I still cant climb hills.Freelander 1 2006 model.Startss, idles like a dream.I can rev her up to 5/6 Rpm easily.Pulls away in 1st with loads grunt, but then she wont accelerate .My foot is flat to the floor, makes no difference. I did the turbo test and pulled turbo solenoid pipe off, makes no difference either.Would appreciate some expert advice(new air cleaner installed/new glo plugs/oil filter etc.New fuel pump too.Its a cheap Ridex and yes,it screams like a siren, new Pierburg has been ordered).

Thanks in advance

Hi Maxdata.
Have you tried unplugging the MAF sensor to see if that makes any difference.

Hi Arctic, thanks for the reply.Yes,tried unplugging MAF,makes no difference to hill climbing At the moment I am driving with the Turbo charger boost sensor unplugged. If I plug that sensor back in,I cant even pull away ,car cuts out straight away.At least this way I can get to Carrefour and back.

Did you check the air pipes for splits and holes? In particular, the back of this pipe. It often has a hole worn through it from the screw behind it which holds the plastic air intake in place. The second picture is of the hole worn through mine. The pipes were also softened and swollen from the heat and oil in the engine bay.

When you cleaned out the manifold & EGR did you remove the MAP sensor which you have unplugged at the moment? how did you clean the manifold out? you did not poke anything inside the MAP sensor did you.

Map sensor is ok if it as light oil on it

But if it is closed up due to build up of gunk then wipe it over with a rag sprayed with some carb cleaner, don't ever poke anything into the hole.

You want the MAP sensor clear like below.

Also check all the vacuum hose coming from the egr.

Thanks Arctic.
I will check EGR hoses for holes etc today.

I cleaned EGR and manifold with parafin, loads gunk came out . I am going to try a second clean today .
Hmmm, i didnt take the MAP sensor off, Im dying to try that today and clean it .After that,I will try and plug her back in .
No poking around whatsoever, just wiping around with rag.

What I have also ordered are the Orings for the Fuel pressure regulator .
Also ordered the Main fuel filter (I believe its on the Top RHS of engine , next to ECM box.). Ten and 15 Pounds respectively, might as well change them now .

Not on an 06 it isn't. The only fuel filter on that age vehicle is at the back, along with the low pressure fuel pump.

Have you checked the live data from the engine? That's where I'd start, as randomly replacing components generally doesn't solve the problem.

yes, your right ,I am waiting for the mechanic to return on the 18th (french holidays) , I have booked it in to check the live data .
Thanks for the heads up on the fuel filter . Im just going to have to wait until then.

Hi,yes,it was removed when I cleaned. What I tried yesterday afternoon was taking out the MAP,wiping her down ,reinserted. Landy took off like a jet, flew up the first hill, then crawled up the next.Im guessing the Map is fine, but getting blocked again because I didnt clean the Manifold intake properly?

What do you suggest to clean Manifold ?

To clean the manifold out use oven cleaner, let it soak for at least 2.5 hours, then jet wash it out, remember to removed the egr, & MAP sensor before cleaning, let it dry out which takes at least an hour unless you have an air line then you can blow it out dry,

EGR.

You can gut the EGR which then makes it a by pass EGR.

You can also purchase a by pass EGR.

Also check the wiring to the MAP plug is ok, and the wiring to the turbo boost plug is ok, no breaks or chaffing.

Well, took 4 tins oven cleaner, she's finally clean.I put it all back, but same problem. I was careful with the MAP sensor. One question. Where the MAP is inserted into the side of the Manifold,I used an earbud to clean out the inside (NOT the actual MAP sensor itself). How do you do this clean.I am convinced there's muck still inside the little hole the MAP plugs into and this is giving an incorrect reading .

It's just a hole into the manifold chamber. You can see if it's plugged or not, maybe by using a torch/flashlight.

hello again, back from work now and trying again with the landy . I found the same hole as paul99 had .Can you tell me when ordering the new pipe , what part number is it ? (thanks in adance ) Bon courage everyone
