The number you have posted is the engine type, it's a 3 ltr Capri engine.
The engine number is stamped on the flat surface at the back of the engine block above the flywheel.

Thanks again, nice to know its a Capri Engine.
I couldn't find a resource on line to de-cipher it so nice to now that I'd end up with a Land-Capri !!

Again - anyone know of someone who might be interested in the job of fitting it in - removing the Diesel, welding new mounts and putting it in?
Located North West UK. Cheers?

So - to bring this post up to date, thanks for all the advice, I ummed and arred then made a decision...

I listed the Landie on eBay at get my money back pricing, you might have seen it?
But yesterday an old couple of local electricians came to my house to fix some old wiring issues - anyway Pete (one of them) saw my Landie, and showed me pictures of his Series 1 located close by which he'd fitted with a 3.0 V6 Ford.. the Essex conversion.

So, I looked on eBay last night, searched for 3.0 Ford - and BOOM up came an Essex Engine complete with a full Steve Parker Conversion kit - Bloody ebay, it will be the death of me!
So I bid him £400 got it accepted for everything and then ended my listing of the Landie - no one was quick enough! despite 100s of views and 30 odd watchers...

Here we go - spoke to the seller, who is restoring a Series 2 which this ran fine in and I'm arranging collection as I type!
I'll keep you informed of how this goes on this thread... not even sure what exact Engine/Power it is yet but half the price of a Series Petrol and a halfway house to a 3.5 V8... thoughts?

Thanks - I've got the Engine and Steve Parker kit - now want someone to fit it....

Your easiest option would be to buy or hire an engine crane, remove the diesel engine, cut off the engine mounts, hold the V6 in place with the crane, bolt it to the gearbox, bolt engine mounts to the engine then weld to the chassis.
if you can't weld get in a mobile welder who could do it for you.

PS, my idea of North West UK would be somewhere like Ullapool or Kinlochbervie !

Thanks Galladog, yeah I've put Engines in before, though some time back, did an 1800 into an MGB and a few Vauxhall Engine Swops so not beyond me.
I've also welded, MIG welded a Motorbike Frame - so it's within my skill-set - I just wondered if there was some out of work Mechanic or privateer, who might fancy it as a Job while I hold down my Day Job!

North West - take your point - I should say - Manchester Area, CAN ANYONE FIT AN ENGINE for Cash?

Just another thought / question...

Would anybody on here know whether the Engine mounts might have been already moved through the fitting of the Ford Diesel?

The 3.0 V6 states that the Engine mount relocation is the first job - so just wondering if the 2.5 DI Diesel required the same before dropping in... does/did the DI have an equivalent Conversion kit?
Assuming it didn't just drop in and bolt right up - but maybe it did?

If someone who has a standard series engine fitted could measure the distance from the front crossmember to the engine mounts that would help you.
