A few pics of my project. The battery boxes were rotted through.I managed to find replacements that are in extremely good condition with no holes drilled for fitting to the tub either. Also they are around 10mm shallower than the rotted out originals and come with all the battery clamps etc and a mystery bracket that seems to want to attach to the rear cross member for part of the battery boxes to sit on but when offered up make no sense.(answers on a postcard please). The numbers stenciled on the side - does this mean they are from the stores?
Fitted a replacement n/s fuel tank and found some interesting yellow numbers chalked onto the top of the chassis rail and a sticker on the side suggestive of a new replacement chassis, possibly confirmed by the lack of a chassis number on the front dumb iron.
Evidence of the once fitted arctic heater can also be seen in the cab. Managed to source one to re-fit, but there is absolutely no trace of any of the insulation usually abundant on these winterized vehicles.
It was once a hard top , with holes for the full length rear door in place and the antiluce brackets were blanks. Also a door catch still remains at the back.

Was the chassis number partly painted over?
In the photograph I see '1 4 1'.

Nope, that's all there is 141 3 . I've owned 9 over the years and all apart from this one have had full and easily readable chassis numbers. This one's new to me, not come across it before. Need to find out it's history.Maybe that will shed some light on things. Also the sticker that was found on the chassis after removing the fuel tank - I wouldn't have expected that to survive, let alone be readable if it's been there since 1979.

Aha, mystery solved. I think.
The sticker reads:
DETCH ABRO WKSP
WATERBEACH BK S
CAMBRIDGE
???5 9PA
??? WT 100 KG

Searching the net this relates to the Detachment (?) Army Base Repair Organisation Workshops,
Waterbeach Barracks
Cambridge
CB25 9PA
and the weight of the chassis written in biro in KG,s.
So, looks to be a replacement chassis, sent to and fitted at the Army workshops in Sandbeach.
