Hi, my Front Lights (dip and beam) just stopped working 2 mins from getting home about an hour ago... Side lights work ok, indicators, etc... checked fuses all appear ok... Has anybody got any ideas what else to check?

Have the bulbs blown? I know it's an obvious question, and extremely unlikely to take everything out at once, but if they are of a similar age they could fail at a similar time. You could use a meter to confirm (sometimes it's difficult to see if all is well). If they have all blown, either you were incredibly unlucky or they might have experienced a voltage surge or similar (scary thought!)

Assuming they haven't blown...

If both filaments of a bulb are not working, it's possibly an earthing problem, but that is unlikely if both have both sides have failed. So, next thing to check are the switch/es...

My CSW also has some kind of dim-dip arrangement, but I wouldn't have thought this could cause total failure by itself (is it even connected to the main beam filaments?)
 
Hi, thanks for replying... i will check the bulbs when i get home tonight before it gets too dark.. i did a halogen conversion a few months back and have had no probs until now... Could it be the stalk / relays? Where are the relays kept? Should i be able to hear the relays 'click' when i press the stalk even if the lights dont work??

Did you have to change the wiring for the conversion? If so, I'd suggest checking this first.

If the relay is electro-magnetic rather than electronic you can probably hear it 'click', but if any of the switch/earth/+ve connections (depending on how it's wired!) are faulty, it won't be working anyway (ie - check the wiring before assuming the relay is at fault!) regardless of what's happening at the headlamps.

But IS there a relay in the headlight or main beam circuits, or are they wired direct?

Suggest a look at the wiring diagram is in order...
 
Hi, i did not change any of the wiring - just replaced the bulbs as per instructions that came with the lights... Im not sure how the lights are wired up?? will let you know later..

I put a halogen conversion on my classic rangie it worked ok for a while then lost all headlights ,check round ahh dipswitch burned out no bother new switch,18 months later no lights dipswitch again hmmm strange,then found out full power is going thro switch halogen just too much for it,pliers out fitted two relays used dipswitch for tripping the relays only 4 years on no bother mine is 86 rangie my p38 has relays + halogen lights standard ,,,, moral in that story methinks best o luck mate
 
my lights went at manby this year was stalk melted inside and covering contacts with melted plastic..........
 
Ok.... Here we go!!!!! Took lights out, tested voltage - nothing there.... Same on both sides. Checked with stalk forward and with Beam on.. Next checked voltage at fuses.... No volts.. Fuses check out ok.... So, how can I trace this back to what feeds the fuse. Is it the stalk??? If so can I manually override the stalk to test? Took cowl off to expose steering column can see 3 wires going to the stalk. Just to let you know, side lights work. ... Hope this is enough info... Also looked for a relay but can't see one behind the fuse box.....

Habe just tested switch with multimeter... This is working correctly. Looks like the problem is between the switch and the fuses. Where do the wires run from the switch and split into the several blue wires?

Hi, took the dash off! traced the wired from the switch to a block connect which goes back to the other switch (indicators, beam, horn, etc...) looks like the contacts are worn/sticking as when i touch the contacts together the beam comes on - still no joy on the dip headlights.. so i guess i need a new one! Anyone know where to get one from?
