i've searched the forum over this, but can't find anything, so a quick question to all!
when i'm towing my friends trailer, i get no trailer light on the instrument panel, and when indicating, i get a warning buzzer that goes on and off with the indicator. i'm looking to buy a trailer of my own, so would like to know if it is a problem with my disco, or with my mates trailer?
if it is my disco, any advice on what to do would be great.

I guess it depends on how the towbar plug is wired, mine is done so it uses the green towbar light on the dash when a trailer is connected and you indicate, but I understand there are some systems that use a buzzer, usually designed for vehicles that don't have a warning light fitted. Chances are, if you plug in another trailer, you will still get the buzzer but it all sounds fine as a warning system is in place.

if you have a by-pass relay fitted then you will have a buzzer in it. the dash light may not be wired up. it all depends on what you have fitted and who fitted it.

iT'S BEEN LAW TO PUT A WARNING /NOTIFYING BUZZER [oops cap lock] on since 95, all discos had em since before that its in the towbar 13 pin adaptor if the noise doesnt come on then your pluggs fell out, your trailer light should come on once when no trailer on and all the time with trailer/caravan. If youve not done a lot of pulling wd40 the plug/s.:D

My disco does not buzz with the indicators when towing, is this yet another thing wrong with my landy? Does that mean I am towing illegally? :(

fink you ave to ave a light OR a buzzer - dunt need both.
buzzers are fitted when the vehicle isn't fitted / wired for a warning light.
most landys have a warning light on the dash, so no need for buzzer.

I have a green warning light on the dash (towball symbol) that lights up when the ignition is switched on (IIRC only when the trailer is connected) and flashes when the indicators are on. In normal driving whilst towing, it is not illuminated.

Just checked as per NMA , 2 aLL VEHICLES FITTED WITH twinelectrical output and relays should be fitted with a audible alarm to inform driver of electrics failure/ socket failure, a visual warning sholud also accompany this" .
E&I DONT WORRY TO MUCH AS LONG AS THE Green dash light for trailer comes on you should be ok, just check your lights prior to moving off, i followed a Shogun with a trailer the other day it had no electrics and was in and out of the lanes dikk. :D

ffs only caravanners have TWIN sockets and they aint uman beans, so they dunt count.

Ahem......................... starting this of again youre only pizzed off coz i get 8 holidays a year, and as far as twin lectrics go it was on the web bits i got to help E&I I THINK IT STILL COUNTS FOR LESSER! SINGLE SOCKETS.

MMMMM, IS THAT A WHISKEY, i'll take it in the awning.......................... :D

Bloody hell Boys, fight on!! :D

I might have a "lesser single socket" but I'm happy with that as long as it works! :p Glad to hear I'm not illegeal, I have a light on the dash! :)

No your not I brought a Towing Socket a couple of weeks ago. It came with a Buzzer and the instructions say that the buzzer is a legal requirement on all tow sockets fitted after 1995. So even if your car didn't have a buzzer when it was made if you replace the tow socket you also have to fit a audible warning.

Right......

Some are saying that a buzzer is a legal requirement on any sockets after 95,

Others are saying that EITHER a buzzer or light is a legal requirement after 95.

Which is it?

Well I bought a brand new car in January this year and had the tow bar fitted by the main dealer prior to delivery. There is NO buzzer, but there is a warning light on the dash.
So, either a major manufacturer has got it wrong with their official accessories, or the rule is buzzer OR light.

you tell em trevor, feckin caravanners, took me nigh on an hour ter get home from work last night, its only 11 feckin miles, feckin pikey bastards
