just bought a 1967 sedies 2a petrol, ran fine on the 40 mile trip home, but has now developed a knocking from engine when accelerating hard, anybody got any ideas before i rip the whole engine apart.

no not pinking, i can best describe it as the same noise as an old ford overhead cam knock, if you know what i mean, but cam knock all time when going dont they ?

Not much help for me only Fords I've ever had are pushrods...is it same in all gears? Could be dodgy prop-shaft joints?

yeh same in all gears but only when you floor it drive it kindly and its fine, off down to my garage now to have a good look at it and check the valve clearances

almost certainly piston noise, a big end will knock under light load, main bearings will rumble under hi load, a piston will sound like a cam shaft "clack" on hi load, try disconnecting one ht lead at a time and see if it goes away
