Ok, so just to clarify, the earths coming off the lamps want going to the relay earth yeah?

lamp earth go to body, the earth on switch is because it's illuminated. you are switching live

Are there any good earthing points round the fusebox under the steering column anyway to attach the lamps earths to?

the pic shows 10 amp wire for the lamps, 130w bulb is 10.83 amp so 15 amp cable best.
make sure its a 25A fuse.

Done it now and all works well. Used a 25amp fuse and 27amp wire and no fires! Cheers for the help guys. Think it just need better earths and proper ampage wire that's all, looks better now an all. Cheers!
