I have acquired some 2" lift springs for my defender. But 2 of the springs have 1 extra coil than the others. Are these front and back?? Thanks guys

Stand all 4 springs together and work out which springs in the 2 pairs is the taller as the tallest spring of each pair fits on the R/H/S of the vehicle as it allows for the weight of the fuel tank and driver ;)

Probably better to put them on the rears, but difficult to be sure if you don't know exactly what they are.

Absolute rubbish!

Standard genuine springs all four are different, and specific to the corner of the vehicle where they should be fitted. You would not be able to tell the difference from free lengths, even on new springs, the difference is more in the rates than in the free lengths. Standrd genuine springs can be identified by the colour coded bands on the spring, and reference to the spring chart published by LR in the manual.

OP has clearly stated that his springs are 2" over, therefore not standard genuine, and unlikely to be weight compensated.

Well thanks for the pointers guys. I have heard that the highest springs go drivers side to take into account for tank & driver... but I can't get my head round how that will work. So, I will try that first if it sits right, fair enough. If not then they'll be paired and fitted to where sits correctly. Await pictures of my truck ending it's life because of wrong spring installation. .

Thanks again guys

Only on standard genuine/OEM springs. And as I posted earlier, if you have a set of new genuine springs stood on the ground, the length difference is only about 3/4 inch overall. There are also differences in the spring rate.

As your springs are not standard, this does not apply, most aftermarket springs are not compensated for vehicle weight distribution,

Thanks mate. So would you recommend just fitting the springs to where the truck fits best. Front being heaviest, taller pair at front

As in post 4! ;)

Despite the front of the vehicle being heavier, the stronger springs are usually at the back. Look at the chart Pikey posted, yu will see.

I know a few run standard front springs with the Britpart heavy duty on the back, and that seems to work fine for them. Britpart HD are not handed, just a fraction longer and much stiffer than standard.
