HI Ive just passed my Freelander 1 on to my dad in France and he needs a new set of LHD headlights. Ive searched the interweb and they look very expensive. does anyone have or know where I can get a decent second hand pair.
54plate Freelander 1

thanks

There're like rocking horse Doodoo second hand. It'll be new I expect. New LHD ones pop up on EBay from time to time at a reasonable price. So that's likely your best bet. On the plus side, the RHD lights on there will also be worth reasonable money in the UK.;)

Have you looked at headlight beam deflectors? Rimmer bros do a pair for £5:40. there are quite a few for people that wish to drive in France, saves the hassle of changing the full unit, plus a lot cheaper.

Have you thought about looking through the ex-pat sites in France for some? It could be that someone is returning to the UK and might welcome a swop!

yeah there ok for the odd trip but car will not pass French MOT with them.

Beam pattern is different on US spec lights compared to “normal” LHD headlights
Bummer!
But are they acceptable in the EU? Or, ahem, would they be picked up during testing?
They would certainly be closer to EU spec than RHD headlights.

I have just successfully converted the headlamps on a 2004 Freelander to have dip beam kick up to the right. Quite simply you remove the headlamps and convert the bulb fixing from H7 to take H4 headlamp bulbs( where the dip beam is built into the bulb), you can then rotate the bulb to get the image kick up to the right, which makes them LHD friendly, for just a bit of engineering time and the price of 2 H4 bulbs.

Neat trick, although you'll be loosing ½ the light output, as an H4 is only ½ as bright as an H7 bulb, and the H4 shutter blocks ½ the light from the filament. However if there's no other option, it'll work.
