Hi all,

bought my 200tdi (registered as light 4x4 utility 6 seater/ PLG taxation class). 110 a couple of years back and it was all good on the LEZ checker. (I live within the zone)

recently changed the number plate on it and happened to check last night and now IS SUBJECT to LEZ. ???? Have I missed something or an admin error?

cheers

Does the vehicle have windows and seats in the back as standard?

Yes windows (but they may have been a later addition) and yes (bench seats) it does say on v5 6 seats....

If the vehicle says Light Utility 4x4 on the V5, it probably did not have windows and seats in the back as standard.
What has happened since makes no difference, it is what the vehicle was registered as when new that counts.

Are you sure you are within the LEZ zone? I did not think Sussex was inside the M25?

Are you sure you are not entering the details in the ULEZ checker?

Yes I’m now living in Surrey.

Definitely entering into LEZ

are you telling me that it’s actually not exempt?? I’ve spent a fortune on it!!!

It would help if you change your location on the forum. Helps us to help you.

As far as I am aware, that vehicle should never have been LEZ compliant. LEZ is aimed at commercial vehicles.

It may be that it was originally entered wrongly, but has flagged up because you have changed the number plate, or because you have made modifications to the vehicle.
In any case, it is never going to be ULEZ compliant, and the ULEZ is being extended to the North and South Circulars this year.

Oh man. I’ve shot my self in the foot by changing the plate. ****!
I’ve been driving it around for ages with no fine! I’m really gutted. I’ve sent an email to TFL. Hopefully you are wrong! (But I doubt it)

Good idea to check it out with TfL. But I doubt if I am wrong too, my parents live inside the LEZ, and within extended ULEZ.

I wouldn't stress about it too much, though. If you have off road parking, or a garage, and don't use the vehicle that much, you could just pay the £12 a day charge when you do use the vehicle.

Oh
.
YOU ARE FORGETTING ABOUT THE £100 a day non compliance on the LEZ!!!!!!!

You could be right. ULEZ charge is £12.50 a day. Not that I will be paying either, because I bought a compliant car well in advance.

In that case, your best plan might be to sell it in the provinces, they still sell quite well out there.

No need to shoot the messenger. I did not bring in the legislation, just told you what I thought the situation was.

James,

you are a great authority on these matters.

know knowing that I’ve got a vehicle that technically could cost me £700 a week for driving, unless I here back good news from TFL, I’m curious to know if the 40 year rule applys to all vehicles for the ability to avoid the penalty’s? I’m just wondering about keeping it for the 6 years mothballed until the rule kicks in, or doesn’t....

That will work. Provided the vehicle is standard enough to re-register as a Historic Vehicle

When getting the tax free class at 40 years old, does the vehicle have to be checked?

I don’t think it does get checked when you register it, but I think it could be checked on a road side stop if they see something “fishy”.

On a side note, have you used a vin decoder to see what your chassis number is actually saying the vehicle should be? I use this one usually.

is your 200tdi a later retrofit?

also did you get rid of the v8 you mentioned in 2019 when you asked about the ULEZ?
