On my 2001 Td5 Disco I have a problem, if I turn on the laft flasher the fuse goes bang.

Removed left relay and now as I would expect the flasher will not work but the right flasher is working fine.

A few weeks ago we had the socket for the trailer moved and the guy welded it to the new tow plate but I do not know if he disconnected the wires first.

Where is the plug that connects the factory trailer socket to the main wiring?

Are there any known issues with the flashers on a Disco 2, I'm very worried as only last month one of the guys that works for me had his Disco go on fire due to a wiring problem.

Hi real, if you remove the O/S/R light unit you will see a large 7 pin brown connector, thats for the towing electrics. Disconnect it and try your flashers, chances are if the tow socket was welded on the heat would have melted the insulation on the harness at the socket. You can buy the tow wiring seperate if thats the case, if that doesn't solve the issue disconnect each flasher seperately and try them to see if fuse blows. If it still blows with all the N/S flashers disconnected then you have a short in the wiring, i would go for the front and look first at the wing area. It's not a very common fault on the Disco II so sounds like it's caused due to previous work, wouldn't worry bout it causing fire as it's blowing fuse so it's on the fused side so long as you don't put in an over rated fuse. hope this helps

Found it, thanks for your help, turned out to be a cable trapped between the HD bumper and the body. Rejoined the cable and covered the joint in waterproof heat shrink and all is now good.

Thanks for your help.
