Hi Guys,

I have not taken a detailed look as yet, but just thought I would ask in case anyone here knows the reason why.

On my 97 300tdi 3 door landy, I realized that my left front wheel is about 2 inches inside the fender than the one on the right. I quickly measured the depth between the rotor on each side to the rim and both are the same.

Rims and tires are the same size too and wheels have no camber so wondering what can cause this.
The chassis seems straight and the landy was never in an accident, any ideas mates?

Jack the front axle up and grab the wheel and give it a wobble, if there is movement, it could be the swivel pins are badly warn causing the whole hub and swivel assembly to sit crooked on the swivel ball....
 
Grem I dont think mine is adjustable, will double check.

Siant .V8, I know the previous owner recently did a swivel rebuild with the upper and lower bearings etc..but will still jack and check.

As above, if it is "tucked" in, Do you mean the top is angled inwards ? from your OP, it does almost read as if the whole wheel is inboard by a few inches, which would be well bizarre................:D

The whole wheel is inboard Neilly, thats why I mentioned no camber. If the swivel has play or the pan rod bushes are bad, it will have camber/tilt. I do know its bizarre.

The only logical way for this to happen is if the body is sitting offset on the chassis or if the chassis is bent...

My.....if the whole wheel in inboard that is an issue!

Does the opposite wheel have a spacer fitted and the 'inboard' one has been refitted without it?

No, thats why I measured from the brake disc to the rim while the wheels are on.

panhard rod locates front axle laterally lifting or lowering chassis will move axle,have both wheels the same offset

The Panhard Rod moves the complete axle, which wouldn't show any differences measuring between similar parts on each side of the axle. Measure from the rotors to the chassis each side.
 
Well guys I feel like a fool. One of my work guys jacked up the Landy to paint the chassis unknown to me, I have not taken down the jack as yet but almost sure this is the reason. Since the Landy is lifted 2 inches, the tilt angle will be higher allowing the body to hang over the wheel more.

Silly feeling but happy, will still look at it again when the Landy is down.

The landy has a Brit Part HD 2" lift kit on it, rides like its on the rims, hard and nasty. I do intend to low bed 10ft X5 ft single axle tow a trailer on and off, wondering if I can go with something milder.
 
You mean you were wondering why the wheel was in an unusual position when it was jacked up in the air! :eek: :eek:
I think someone needs some time in the naughty corner. ;) :p
