I hve just fitted LED lights (not headlights) and the indicztors are fine on hazard but they make a buzzing sound on indicating and all four come on solid. Is there somethibg obvious that someone else has experienced?
I am assuming some sort of issue with earth but cannot see or think of a solution.

Mine is an original 90 from 1983.

You need to get a RDX LED flasher unit, that is tuneable.
the dial does not set the flash rate, it sets at which point the flasher begins to operate....

All other flasher units are a total waste of money (wipac = wicrap!)
Flasher relay is a simple bimetallic strip, strip gets hot breaks connection, gets cold reconnect etc
Led indicators don't draw enough current for the flasher relay to work (when on hazard all four draw more current hence they make it work albeit flashing slowly would be my guess!?)

There was a thread about these LED "angel eyes" which incorporated the amber indicator lights.

Apparently it's illegal to have more than one indicator on each side of the vehicle showing to the front. With the new MoT rules taking more interest in the types and use of newer headlight fittings, you might want to check the position.

LOL checked it, & not bothered, just remove repeater wire before test etc.

OK Mr P Dantic, the knob alters when the lights start flashing :p although when I twiddled mine :eek: the rate changed until I got it right.....

@KISSMYAURA - how you doing not chatted for a while (apart from you correcting me.....:rolleyes:)

Hey buddy,

Cant help it, its an LED affliction thing! besides if your one changes the flashing rate myne must be a Mk1!

So apart from rewiring, and full replumb and plaster, and -fitting a new kitchen and wet-room at home, ( ok so i got someone else to do the plastering) my tratter has been a royal PIA all sorted now thanks to Gary at Alive. After replacing every sensor that exists, and much spanner throwing and swearing, seems my ECU had a brain fart and managed to corrupt its own fuel map (with no interference from me I might add!)
Changed 4 lucas green top injectors (did not need to so will be selling them soon etc) I got brand new lucas replacements for £160 each, my supplier owed me a favour etc So triggers broom lives on with fresh new bristles etc.
Odd how when your fender is unwell you get the right pox with it, typically was off the road for the snow we had, and where i live I really needed it.
Anyway whats new with you?

PS FFS I should have shares in Screwfix by now......
 
Brian47, there is nothing apparent about only one indicator per side at the front of a vehicle.

A: Two front direction-indicator lamps

Taken from Vehicle Lighting Regulations

No vehicle shall be fitted with a total of more than one front indicator on each side

Have a look at anything from a small eurobox up to a HGV, one indicator per side at the front.

Loving this thread, I’m about to purchase a full set of lights for my Landy ‘spruce up’ (was supposed to be a lick of paint, power steering and new seats, done. Has turning into a full project, full respray, lots of additions and new everything - well thats what it feels like!).

So I’m guessing from this thread RDX lights and halo (none indicating) head lights are the ones to go for and I’m adding high level lights on the back, any suggestions on which ones?

I have tried to take the light in the dash out but no change still all 4 comemon when i indicate.

Is there an earth that i am missing? mine is a 1983 90 so not sure if that makes any difference,

i just bought extra RDX stop/tails, i figured I wanted an original look and running lights as well as HLB lights, so I have two extra rear stop and tails lights. I have the tails on, just fitted the same for a mate, he wanted them to just be brake lights
the choice is yours.

Like this.....

( the two white lights below widows are reverse LED supabright repeaters)

My LED headlamps have white half halos that switch to amber when i indicate, if you don't want them to, Simple don't connect the indicator wire!

You have a few choices

1) Halo's as DRL (connect halo to IGN live)
2) Halo's as sides (Connect to halo side lights)
3) Halo Amber indicator + (1) or (2) (connect halo yellow cable to indicator)
4) Halo's as Orange DRL (connect halo yellow cable to ign) :p

Under UK Vehicle Lighting Regulations obligatory vehicle lights must carry an approval mark. An approval mark consists of several parts such as country code, light function code, approval number, etc.

If your lights are not approved they are illegal and hence can have major implications on your insurance.

Currently it is not a MOT failure if your headlights do not have the correct approval markings on, however they are still illegal.

However the 2018 MOT is based on the EU directive 2009/40/EU.

Under section 4.1.4 where headlights must comply with regulations then

(a) Lamp, emitted colour, position, brightness or marking not in accordance with the requirements1 .

is a major defect. For some reason the marking requirements has not been included in the new UK 2018 MOT, but the vehicle is still illegal.

interesting one, I had an ARB winch bumper for years on my old defender, this had built in (working) indicators, never got pulled over or picked up on MOT. I have the Halo leds with working indicators, will be interesting to see if this causes an issue on my next MOT.
