So i've upgraded my headlights to led's (from sp4x4), problem I have is that as soon as I flick the switch into the 1st position to turn my side lights on I get low beam which I should get in position 2? When I put the switch into position 2 there is no change at all... high beam work just fine.

I have upgraded my headlight loom for the boomslang one from paddocks which is basically just plug and play. (loom was recommended by a LR technician to take the load off the switch)

Not a clue where to start looking to sort this, any help would be very much appreciated, need to get it sorted soon, need to get my MOT booked.

Sounds like the wiring has an issue.

I'd check with the seller to see if they have a clue. Maybe they have other customers who've had the same problem.
 
Fairly sure it’s not an earth fault as I’ve ran new earths, will check again though.

Il pop an email to sp, they must of had something like this before.

Do you have a dim dip relay fitted?

Do the side lights come on at all?
Yes the side lights come on with the headlights.
Haven't checked the relay but I would assume it's got the relay they worked properly before I changed the lights to LED.
 
If it’s got one, the chances could be it’s letting enough voltage and current through to trigger the new led lights that take a fraction of the power of the old units.

That is the issue - had the same problem - I changed the switch and all worked as should
 
LED will work with a voltage as low as 9 volt so pull the H4 connector off and check the voltages in different switch positions.

Dim dip resistors have been know to cause issues with lights.

Have a close look at the markings on your headlights. There is a mass of cheap illegal Chinese headlights flooding the market.

IF the only markings on the headlight lens is DOT, SAE and E + number in a circle then it is NOT an approval mark and is ILLEGAL to use in the UK and you run the risk of your insurance policy being voided if you are in an insurance scenario.

If your headlights are the cheap Chinese ones where a LED halo/DRL turns amber and flash when you indicate check very carefully the markings on the lens. The chances are extremely high that they are ILLEGAL. Check the information with the headlights as to have the indicator working in the headlight you will have to disable the original indicator. WHY? You are only allowed by law one direction indicator per side at the front of the vehicle. Check how many indicators manufacturers put at the front of a vehicle be it a HGV, double decker bus or standard saloon car.

Did you ever by pass the rely to make sure it was that.
Had a search online and found a youtube video showing the fix by either bridging the existing relay, buying a new relay or the easiest fix was to disconnect the resistor under the drivers side wing, done that and everything worked as it should. So in short you were correct it was the relay :)
 
Good Morning and thank you for that, got to say I prefer the look of just unplugging the resistor, looks a lot less risky with my limited knowledge than removing the dash
Will get on that today and let you know how I get on
