Eh up knowledgable folks.

I’ve a bit of an odd one. My 1981 series 3 keeps going through voltage stabilisers on the back of the speedo. It’s done one every month or two in the six months I’ve had it. I swapped to the solid state ones two back, they do last a bit longer but it’s still doing it. No other Obvious electrical problems just every two months I get in, turn it on, temperature sores to the top of the gauge and the fuel gauge says it’s full all the time. Now I’m an optimist but I know that’s never true in a landy.

Just wanted to know if anyone have experienced anything similar and have you solved it?

Kind regards in advance,

Sam

Sam, first thing to check is that the speedo body where the voltage regulator lives is earthed correctly. If the earth is dodgy the regulator can't work properly.
If that checks out ok, it'll need some more detective work... There could be an intermittent short to earth on the light green wire from the reg to the gauges.

I'm thinking an intermittent short on one of the wires from a gauge to a sender, oil or temp or fuel. Its then burning out the regulator. Fit a new reg then disconnent all except one gauge and see how long it lasts.

Wow! That’s why I love this forum! So much help, rapid style. I’ll check the alternator voltage when I get in tonight and report back. :)
