Hi all

So my roof is still leaking at the rear of the vehicle (disco 2).
Sunroof has been sealed up.

I was looking at a few other disco's the other day, and noticed that they only had roof bars at the front.
Mine has extension bars that go to the back as well.

That got me thinking that maybe they were an aftermarket add-on. Maybe they haven't been sealed up properly?

I'm going to run round them with some liquid rubber and see what happens. The front of the car is always bone dry - even if its pointing downhill, it just comes out of the rear sunroof controls.

Any ideas on this? Wishful thinking?

If you've already sealed the sunroof, and you're sure the sunroof rubber glass seal is ok and doing it's job, then yes the extension bar mounting holes would be a good place to start. Also check the small rear windows by the roof, their proper name has gone right out my head for some reason!

From where it's leaking out of ( rear sunroof controls ) does still sound like the sunroof ! Are both seals on it sealed up ( glass to frame ) ( frame to roof ) I only ask as on my D2 on both sunroofs it was the outer seal (frame to roof) that was leaking , giving me no end of water coming in though the sunroof controls.

Well, when the car is on the drive, it's everso slightly uphill, so it drains out of the rear air vents into the boot.
I try to reverse it off the drive and hit the brakes a few times on the way back to slosh it out. However, when I turn round and head downhill it sometimes (if its been raining very heavily) comes out of the sunroof controls.

Going to have another go at the sunroof, just to make triple sure. Then I'll get the roof bars at the back done. Me and the mrs both fight to get the keys every day - terrible to be left with a rangie sport eh?

If your sunroofs still open , after it's been raining wipe the glass off then open them and just look in the to front corners in the drip tray , if they have water in them then it's still your roof leaking , I used to use a drinking straw and suck out the water before moving off, just to stop the kids moaning about the water come out the roof vents and light , then wasted a lot of time taking out the lining to fix the drip lines and putting in new inner seals , only to find out it was the outer seal to the roof , whitch only cost me £5'er and 10minutes to fix with a very very fine beed of auto sealent round the outer frame , whitch you can't even see that's it's been done , that was back in feb and with the wet year we have had not a drip in since, and the roofs both work , oh and don't waste ya time fixing the drip lines they don't work the best of times ,and if you fix the leak coming in there's no need for them as there were only ever ment to keep water out if you had left the roof in the tilted position in the rain , thats why the glass has the trim on the front edge to beed the water into the front corners ,hope you find your leak

Sounds like the leak is between the roof and the plastic frame of the sunroof. This is the joint that fails, not the seal between the glass and frame. Mask up and run a bead of sikaflex around the outside, where it meets the roof.
