Almost got my p38 MoT ready. Test driving it around the field today and it seems to have developed a leak.

Quite a lot of oil (think it’s oil) is dripping down from near the rear Y section of exhaust not far from the fuel tank, above the rear axle.

The nose of the diff and end of be prop are all wet. So I’m guessing it’s the pinion seal.

Google is being a little vague and I can’t find a p38 exploded diff diagram. Is there only one seal for the pinion?

There’s fuel lines, filler neck, brake pipes over the tank on some models near there can go, but photo looks like diff spitting

Have you checked the level?

Nah it had got too late. I only crawled under to check some bolts. Thought it was brake fluid at first as I’d just had a low fluid warning on the dash. But it doesn’t smell or feel like brake fluid. Nor petrol.

It’s a golden colour. EP90 I think. But first saw it dripping down off of the cross member by the exhaust and onto the top of the diff casing and then dripping off the bottom of the diff. Think it must have flown the oil everywhere. Hoping it’s only the diff pinion and nothing more serious at any rate!

I’ve failed to kill my diff, yours should be two pin so can take a hammering. Probably just seal but check your shafts aren’t wobbling while your under there
