Is it true that the most common cause of sunroof leaks is the seal to the roof?

Ie, not the seal around the sunroof you can see from the outside?

So if I simply unscrew the 14 or so screws, lift the unit out , apply more sealant (leave to dry first before refitting the unit), reseat the sunroof then that should be me?

What's the secret to getting the drain tubes off the connectors on either side as they seem locked on!

I understand they usually get blocked at the bottom end. A jug of water should show you what's going on

On mine there was a crack at the RH side drain channel where the tube is atached to the frame... that's why these kits are well sold https://www.ebay.com/itm/Land-Rover-Discovery-Sunroof-Drain-Plastics/163415377337?_trkparms=aid=1110001&algo=SPLICE.SIM&ao=1&asc=20131231084308&meid=bf43d4f809bc4d8385ff0398301090f6&pid=100010&rk=1&rkt=12&sd=162699088886&itm=163415377337&pmt=0&noa=1&pg=2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100010.m2109 but i improvised with an aluminium pipe and epoxy also changed the seal too. You'll have to remove the sunroof anyway to diagnose it so prepare a new seal too, factory fitted sunroofs are not glued there

There is loads on this. Seal to roof gets old and leaks, seal to glass gets gungey and leaks, drain tube piece splits and leaks. Re-seal with Sikaflex, wash and refit with some suitable lubricant applied, epoxy a biro tube on the end and sikaflex the sh out of it. I think LR should have just made the D2 out of Sikaflex from the factory.

Sorry what's that about a biro?!

Is there anyway to seal it completely from the outside to save farting about?

Put the whole lot in another box?

Yup that would work!

Can someone tell me please the trick to get the drain pipes off the boxes in the corners.

Are they glued on?

Once I do get them off, it it those ends I blow down?

No glue, pull the pipe off and blow in it
Ok, just feels like it is stuck on and will snap when I pull it but will give it a go!

Last question for now... when I lift the unit out, do I apply silkaflex around the edge of the sunroof space on the roof itself, wait for it to set then place the unit back in and screw?
