A common problem indeed. My 87 Defender leaks water from under the dashboard when it rains or I clean it. Anyone know where it comes from and how I can stop it from doing this (yes I know it's a Land Rover and they leak)?

Vent seals
Windscreen seal
Hinge/bracket seals (two each side)
Windscreen frame to bulkhead seal
Brake/clutch pedal box seals
Grommets for throttle cable and bonnet release cable
Rust holes in top of footwell

That should get you started. Guess what I've been trying to do recently? :p

eeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr .........Writing a book?;)

Yes, a book about Land Rovers and their ****-poor construction!

Anyway, mini-rant over I must add a couple to the above list:

Door seals
Door window waist seals
Door card water-shedder

If you'd say the leak is the land rover itself it would have been shorter.
And true.

For me it was the pin between the hinge for the windscreen and the windscreen frame. It rotates in the windscreen frame (or so did mine anyway). Put some grease in there and it was dry for about a year :D

I went berserk with a tube of gutter sealant today  Leak NOW ya bastid!

Your problem is, You CLEAN it! Leave it alone and eventually the dirt will fill up all the holes, simples!:)

Hehe, I knew someone would have a go at me for cleaning it! I'm trying to preserve it so when that plastic unibody crap comes out in 2015, the new 'Defender' - Defender my arse, I'll still have a propper landy with no rust :D. Will probs do a rebuild in 5 years time or so tho.

There is a Defender water ingress manual available that details all the problem zones and what to do. I downloaded one after a search on this site so you could do the same. It tells you exactly where to look if you are experiencing water ingress and what to do. It is an official Landrover publication.
