Thanks for the feedback.
Looking at the previous threads I will work from the outside in.
1. sun roof to body seal
2. rubber seal to glass
3. rubber seal to sun roof frame
4. (if needed) the drainage pipes
From what I can see the sunroof condition front and rear are both excellent - the sealing rubber is not damaged or deformed.
I did have something similar on another vehicle rear door seal where the door had not been used for some time and the tubular seal whilst compressed with the door shut stuck together and remained so after the door was opened. I had to pull the seal apart by hand.
It is a little crazy with so many Discovery's in the field that this problem keeps on occuring even on very new vehicles. Mine is a 2000 model. The last thing I want is a flood in my new pride and joy.......

Problem solved!!!
This is a tricky job but OK if you take your time. The headlining will need to be removed to allow good access.
1. Check the seal between the plastic outer sunroof frame which fits to the outer roof - I did this will a feeler gauge - if you can tap the inner frame the seal is perished. In theory you should take the complete sunroof assembly out but in reality you can clean and apply a tidy bead of clear sealer between the body and roof surround.
2. After removing the glass check the fixings for the glass (4 on each roof) use new rubber washers or sealant. Seal the inner side as well and allow to dry before the glass is put back - this will hold the fixings to allow them to be tightened easier.
3. Remove/clean and reseat the main rubber seal (again with clear sealant) - from the factory the seal is just pushed into the plastic frame.
4. Clean and reseal the drainage tubes as they connect to the internal sunroof frame. Test to see if the pipes are not blocked.
Now the crazy part - there is a design fault - the drainage outlets are mounted to the front of the sunroof assembly. If you are parked with the bonnet pointing up a slope or hill and water gets past the outer seal it will not drain away - it just fills up the internal sunroof drain channel until this is full up then into the headlining - beware.

Just been to a very nice parts man in Hunters Land Rover at Southampton, If you require a new rubber seal for Mk1 Disco tilt and slide sunroof there is no part listed..... but this seal from a Mk2 disco will fit as its the same. Land Rover Part No. EEQ 500010 ( 68 Df7 A0333671 E0ZTA )

Have just expirenced this on my new to meTd5 that i picked up yesterday it's on the rear roof. Will a new rubber seal help or can i just seal it all up with silicon ie not use the roof, If so were should i seal to make the whole lot water tight? What sort of silicon should I use?
