Hi there

I've just bought a 2002 Freelander TD4 and with all the heavy rain we've had lately, I've noticed a leak in the roof. The water comes in and goes into the light in the ceiling just in front of the sunroof. It would appear that it is coming in via the aerial hole but I can't be sure. It may be coming from the sunroof itself.

I know that the sunroof leaking is a big issue on Discos but can't find much on leaking Freelander rooves.

Can anybody help please?

Thanks

Jez, Cambridge

Are you sure it isnt coming in through the sockets for the roof bars? Water colects in there and can filter in. Seen it happen on a 3 door TD4.

Hi - I'm not sure to be honest. The only place I can see water at all is in the light fitting and it drips down from there. It's a fair way from the roof bars. All of the headlining is totally dry - even around the light fitting.

Guessing its the 5 door is it? If thats the case it would seem to be the most logical explanation to think that its seeping through the aerial. That or maybe condensation perhaps. Think your first guess is right.

Anyone know how these aerials are attatched?

It is a 5 door - I suppose the aerial is bolted on. It only leaks after heavy rain so I don't think it's condensation. There was a small puddle inside the light fitting this morning and it was starting to drip onto the floor. Either way, I suppose it's going to involve removing the rooflining which sounds like a lot of hassle.

Thats what I think too, never looked at the aerial carefully before but I assume that there is a bolt fitting under the rooflining. You might be able to get to it from the sunroof side rather than the windscreen side.

Thanks - do you mean I might be able to get in there via the recess of the sunroof as opposed to going in from underneath? It's doing my head in a bit to be honest. I found it slightly suspicious that the previous owners always kept it under cover when we viewed it!

Forget that...it's a piece of cake. Just had a look on mine. Pull the light fitting out and there is the aerial connection. Tighten the bolt and see if that helps. Check the rubber surround on the outside of the aerial it may have perrished.

Hi - so just pull off the light fitting and the aerial is located directly above it? So would it make sense that it would drip directly onto the light? Thanks very much for pulling bits of your landy just to help me out, it's much appreciated!

No bother at all. It makes perfect sense to me, the light fitting would act as a drip tray for it. Think you diagnosed it spot on.

You are a complete star mate, cheers. So one final question - the light fitting just pops straight off? Doesn't need sliding to one side or anything?

Jez

Just pulled and wiggled it a bit, came out no trouble at all. Comes out with a bit of weight in it so wouldnt tug too hard and only plastic lugs holding it in place. Good luck ! ;)

Hi I'm Alan new member I think you could be right should there be covers overwear the roof rack used to be fitted

Welcome,
You found an 11 year old question. So do you have a problem with your sunroof/ roof leaking.
If so, do you have a 3 or 5 door version and how bad is it.
If not, then hello again
Cheers
Mike

Five-door Mike it doesn't seem to be coming in by the sunroofs it's all down both sides I think it's something to do with the with the roof rack fittings at the back should it have covers over the holes

Yes, there should be covers over the holes. Maybe stick some mastic in it until you can track down a cover. Or someone on here will suggest a different solution. Leaky roofs are not uncommon in a Freelander.

Thanks Mike I had a quick look I have no idea what they called if anybody can tell me where I can get some I would be grateful
