Hi all.

I wonder if anyone has experienced the same?

My Td4 freelander has a fuel leak from around where the injectors are. I've checked all the spill off pipes and it doesn't seem to noticeably be coming from them.

It runs perfectly, no misses or anything so thought it must have been on he low pressure return side. You can't see a leak when it's running but if you take a trip somewhere then check when you get back there is a pool under the cover where the injectors are, which was then running down (when you turn right) and burning off on the exhaust causing diesel fumes inside the cabin through the vents. For now I have put some absorbent padding in where it pools so I can just change it out rather than have it running down. It's not a major leak and the mpg is still pretty good. It's just annoying and it shouldn't be doing it.

I have checked all the injectors are tight in the assumption that the copper washer beneath the injector should prevent any leak through that way, but understand they have a rubber o ring on as well.

Are these rubber seals prone to leakage if it's passing the copper washer beneath? Is there any way that the injector itself could be leaking? But I would have thought I would see that as it would be under high pressure?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated before I start pulling injectors out etc.

Cheers.

The spill T piece O rings can cause spilled fuel to leak down the injector body. The T piece O rings can wear over time, so would be my first item to check.

Cool, I'll have a look at those first.

It's weird because everything 'top side' of the injectors seems dry, it just pools around the bottom of them.

Will check those out, thank you. Much appreciated.

I have come across this once before and it was one to the T piece connectors it had a crack in it, the owner kept complaining about diesel smell and small pool of diesel round the injector, when I checked the t piece had cracked just inside the top of the injector, being plastic they tend to go brittle over time I changed mine and the persons T pieces for the brass ones

I had this once on my old freelander it was one of the injectors not seating properly I got a new washer and took the injector off and cleaned out all the old diesel some of which had gone hard and when I had finished getting all of it out put the hoover pipe down and sucked up any bits and put it all back and made sure everything was tight but check the torque as the little bolts easily snap

Ah, that's sounds logical, and would make sense of the top of the injector appearing to be dry.
I've ordered a new kit for the spill off, might as well get a set of seals and washers for the injectors too. Should cover all bases then.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

i got a very small flap wheel and cleaned it up that was but be careful if you scrape the bottom where the seal which is copper fits it might leak from there this is just a warning as I know somebody who got a big screw driver and really give it some and ended up he could not get it to seal in the end he got a second hand head.

Interesting seems to point to a problem I'm having with a leak in the upper section at the injectors. Pooling, then overflowing if I don't see it in time followed by billowing smoke from under the bonnet at traffic lights!! Embarrassing! Thanks for the info.

Yes check the leak off connectors they go brittle and the seal wear, if found to be the fault change them for these below.

This happens to a lot of us and as Artic2 has posted a link to the kit that solves that issue I can tell you it's easy to fit yourself in about 20 mins

Hi do you have a picture of this fitted?
Got the same problem

Yours looks like a Freelander 2 2.2 diesel and the spill return pipes are different to the BMW 2.0 Td4 references above.

From memory the spill pipes are relatively cheap from Land Rover
