Amazing stuff @jamesmartin ! We are towards the finish line - yey!

Q1 what do you mean by stc1130 fit t/box? is this the approximately the same procedure for the hub bearings?
Q2 I read online that the shoes have been superceded by ICW500010 - can you confirm as it differs from the icw100030 you proposed (and you know it all so i trust you more than other websites)

Cheers,

stc1130 are the t/box output bearings ,when seal removed you can remove the big circlip refit flange and nut loosely and prise old bearing out, icw100030 do supercede to icw500010

ok, I understand - thanks for clarifying ;) so the two stc1130 will be changed as I have the t/box opened for the seals - great stuff - with this i shall finally end the leaking so I can shouldn't worry on my next trip to be left w/o oil!

When I am changing all these seals/parts I guess I will have to drain the oil - so I will need to replace the oil before putting Wheely in motion again right? how many liters of oil should I bring with me to the mechanic? and actually what type of oil

Lastly.... :p .....is not really leaking but more of copious sweating in the front axle - as per picture attached - is there something that can be done here?

Hi guys, I red on the Land Rover Defender Modifying Manual (Amazon product) that the diff housing and transfer case will be leaking if a synthetic oil is used since the seals are not made for it (page 40 and 45)... Do you think this could be a reason for the leaking?

Hi guys,
follow-up on the question raised a few weeks back :)
Also I read in some forums that a chocked breather could lead to leaking...what is the way to check if the breather is not working correctly?

Guys, finally I am working on this - as when I did the hub bearings, shall I put grease when replacing the 2 bearings here? thanks!!!!

Great, I will do that tomorrow as I am working on this.

I will also replace oil with semi-synthetic :)

For the bearing then, best to grease them up or it not recommended in these type of bearings?

A great ride in the Eastern part of Ghana awaits me once this work is done! looking forward to it!

you probably can only get the kit now and not just the flange,stc4403 which will come with seal and a nut so you will only need for rear axle

Hey @jamesmartin not sure if i misinterpreted your recommendation but I didn't buy the aeu2515 - I got everything else but the kit (STC4403) doesn't include this oil seal (aeu2515) - shall I then buy this AEU2515 oilseal before proceeding with the job or can I use the old one? thanks a lot!

it should come with a seal;

yeah it comes with seal see picture attached circled in red but it doesn't look like the AEU (the other picture attached), thanks for clarifying @jamesmartin :)

its a different kind of mud shield on the flange ,seals is to suit it ,but the last one i did i had to change the shield as it fouled the diff housing, if you like use aeu2515 without the shield

Yes I tried mounting it yesterday but the shield was too tight against the diff housing. Also the nut provided with the kit didn't turn on so I had to use the old one

Hence can you please confirm which is the right part number here that comes without that shield?

Thanks a lot!

wow - you are amazing - 14 seconds to respond!! any chance do you know the nut part number as well?

thanks a million!

james, you remember all these parts by memory? with the speed you pick them up there is no other way! thanks too much!
