I decided to buy a set of ready-made brake pipes for the Landy as that way I know I would have the right size tubing, connectors, good flares etc and they would be the right length.

So, I fitted these to the bare chassis, and they looked fine.

This included the flex pipes at each wheel.

Today I decided to bleed the system for the first time (with an assistant). I had decided to use silicone Dot 5, as that way I know I would not damage my nice new chassis if any (!!! see below) fluid got spilt and it lasts forever(ish).

Leaving aside the odd hiccup the issue I have (at the moment) are the leaks from the front wheel pipework.

The flex pipe connections have a longer length of thread at one end that the other.

At the end with the longer thread, I am able to tighten the brake line such that the flare forms a good seal with the flex pipe.

However, at the other end, the thread does not seem to be long enough – so when I tighten the brake line, it actually tightens the connector up to the bracket on the chassis (or the wheel, depending on which way around I put the flex pipe) and the connector is not making a tight fit from the flare to the flex pipe. So, it leaks. A lot.

Originally, I thought I had got the flex pipe the wrong way around and so swapped it – but to no avail - it just leaks at the other end. Then I thought I hadn’t fitted the connector neatly enough. But there is no sign of that. And then swapped it back. And it still leaks badly.

During all this, I have lost much of my expensive Dot 5 all over the floor and me.

I am, as you can imagine, slightly frustrated.

Anyway, any advice on what I need to do to fix/address this would be appreciated.

The end nearest the wheel. I have seen that I could swap the hose on the rear axle with one of the ones at the front. The one on rear axle has identical, longer threads on the connectors.
 
And its always that fitting/end that leaks?
I suspect you have the wrong flare on 1 pipe.

Take the flexi off and look at the ends are they the same?

That looks to be the wrong flexi hose.

Mine have long threads on both ends of the flexi hose. They are held onto the brackets at the chassis and swivel by a nut and toothed washer. This leaves enough exposed thread for the copper pipe flare fitting to be tightened far enough to seal.

As far as I can see, this is the correct type. They should have a 3/8" x 24TPI UNF thread at both ends.

Yup, wrong hose (despite me ordering the right ones etc). I swapped a spare i had and the one from the back of the car, which had longer threads at both ends, and that sorted the leaks. and then put one of these on the back. So leaks sorted.
 
The rear hose should have a copper washer between the steel hose fitting and the brass T piece so it will seal properly.
