The wing lamps are getting up rated as well but was just considering doubling down to get max light out put.You could just uprate the wing lamps,plenty of kits about.Make sure whatever you do run them through a relay as the stalk switch does not like extra current.
Would put them on the bumper but as you say the lights are more useful higher up and i have seen a few series 3 with spots high up on the grill and it looks even more of a dogs dinner personally. I don't know if A frames are still legal without being soft and spongey.It might be easy to stick a couple on the bumper, but whether they work as well also matters. For mostly Green laning or Off roading I'd stick 'em higher, as they are in the pic, which seems to give a better light spread for seeing holes and the lie of the land/track etc
