Pockers

Ive got a 24 volt ex mod series three lightweight which still runs on leaded/ lead replacement petrol - the only garage near me that does it has now stopped selling it.

Ive been told it will run on unleaded so long as i put a bottle of additive in the tank every time i fill up -

does this sound right or do i need some work done on the engine etc??

any one else got this problem & solved it?

with thanks

you can get lead additive than seems to be ok or you can either get your head done ( you might be able to get one on an exchange basis) or buy one already done

I had the head on my Triumph converted ten or so years ago, It cost something like 30 quid a seat then, but it was well worth it. The bloke that did it was in Bingley but can't remember exactly.

I've been putting Castrol Valvemaster in the Guzzi for the last few years and it seems fine. The Guzzi needs the one with octane boost but I reckon your Airportable will need the un-boosted one.

I too use this stuff its seems ok but to be on the safe side I check my tappets every so often.
If the seats were being eroded the tappets clearances would close up.

Ive been using Millers lead replacement additive in my Rally Imps with no problems for the last 5 years, I buy it in cases of 20 bottles off Frosts of Rochdale. The mix works out at 1 bottle for 12 gallons and costs £3.25 per bottle. With the high revving Imp engines the valve clearance becomes quite critical to give power and not burn out valves (one of mine revs to 11250) and so far I have not suffered any valve clearance closure problems with Millers.
