Can I wash my seat fabric trims in a washing m/c ? my fabric bits (1997 300TDI 90) are in very good condition just a bit grimy and very dusty, I'm thinking of stripping them off, washing them, fitting new foams and refitting. Is this feasible ?

Never done it, but I think taking the fabric off the seats is a bit of a fanny on. You can do it though. As for sticking stuff in a washing machine, no idea.

Can you not scrub them in situ wish some vanish, or hire a carpet vac, just a ball ache removing and potentially ripping or not going back as they are now. Watching car sos the upholsterer there removes the dust/muck with a stiff brush then steams away the crap?

I remember using a spray can of foamy stuff on seriously grimey van seats over 14 yrs ago and they came up a treat.

I'd be very wary of fabric shrinkage.

We've done that once. They were a pain in the arse to put back on but we'll worth it. Low temp wash and dry naturally.

A top tip for refitting seat covers. Put a soft plastic bag over the foam before refitting the cover and it will slip on much easier. The type of bag that you get your cloths back from the Dry cleaners is ideal.

An alternative to a plastic bag is to use stockinette over the foam, as used by upholsterers.

This idea might also help if you have to transport incontinent oldies/kids

Show yer misses and ask her what to do. With a bit of luck she'll wash the covers for yer. Start oft by asking if it will come out with fairy liquid. Should do the trick. ;)
