Hi we have a 2005 110 four door pickup with what i understand is the rover or wolf rear axle same as on the P38 . well ours is not so healthy and its had work done on it a;ready so my questions are below

1- is this p38 the same ratios as the salisbury or TD5 discovery 2 ? or are they all the same ratio?
2- if i want to replace just the diff (center section) will one from a TD5 discovery 2 fit ?(if ratio is same)
3- what would be the best replacement ? i would like to replace just the diff because the prop is new and the half shafts as well as the calipers ,wheel bearings etc are all brand new . (i have disco 2 axles , disco 1 axles that i know are good and a salisbury axle that i cant be sure if its good or not ) .

thanks for reading .. any info /help will be great

What's wrong with it now? Are you sure swapping the diff centre will solve it?

As for ratio's, all coil live axle Land Rover's are 3.54:1, so all the same.

However the rear diff on a 110 is a 4 pin and much stronger. The axle is different to a p38a iirc, but I wonder if the diff centres are interchangeable. If they are, that would be the easiest route. I think Ashcroft Transmissions has some good info on his site about it, might be worth checking.

EDIT:

Forgot to say, just because they are the same ratio, does not mean they will fit. I don't think a D2 diff will fit.

The diff is making a loud whine at high speed . and we have been in there already and changed all parts that we could source besides ring and pinion and the spider gear pins . we just dont want to mess with it again .
if they are all the same raito then thats great .. if the D2&D1 center wont fit and a p38 center or original 110 like ours is the only option then the search is on for a replacement i guess :( ..

is whine all the time , just on power or overrun only ?

Hi Jamesmartin ..that is a very good question . but i have never driven the vehicle myself to hear it ( i will have to ask the person who drove it )and the vehicle is not running right now as the famous crank pulley is out and im waiting on a replacement from the UK to arrive

as i have your attention .. to answer my question is there any other diff that will fit into this axle ?

its a p38 rr diff and none else fit,if its whining it will be bearings or perhaps crown wheel and pinion ,description of when noise occurs should help

well ive got the pulley sorted .. so the diff whines under acceleration at high speed 50 -70 mph . all other times its quiet ..
