I've had this pile of sh## for 2 years and still not used it, had overheating problems to start with sorted that now it stars and runs fine then all of a sudden starts to miss fire. I have changed no end of sensors o2 water temp tps exc but still got the same problem even had a complete new exust system fult must be on ignition side as it happens on gas or petrol if I dont get any luck this week end it's got to go. I have had many land rover products over 30 years and always wanted a p38 but the money and time Ive spent on this has dishattned me to apiont that I may sell my disco as well and go jap

System reset. leave battery fully disconnected overnight. I had the same problem and it cured it for me , so worth a try. Make sure you have your EKA code and radio code.

had battery off over night sevral times no joy. it runs sweet when first started but then if you leave it ticking over all of a sudden you can hear it change and it goes realy rough then stalls so dont think it would be plugs and leads.

Never say never, I had another car, problem occurred only when warm, new leads needed, could actually see it when reving and pitch dark, changed plugs & leads and it totally cured the misfire

My old 4.6 had a faulty coil pack that caused a misfire when warm
Wouldent do it with bonnet open as it must have allowed it to just keep cool enough
Cost me a cat convertor too cos I didnt fix it in time used to spit chunks of molten cat out when red lined

changed the coil pack and it will miss fire with bonnet open

Look at live data on the Nanocom with particular attention to temperature sensors, CPS and cam sensors for starters. You could also reset the trims.

Have a look at what the O2's are doing. May give you an indication of what is happening, Also the Nano has a misfire counter. May help to show if it's general misfire or across all 8 cylinders.

ok so now the starter has given up so when I get that changed and get it started will run on live data what suld i expect to see not had any diagnostics befor this so need talking thro it . I have reset all adaptive values. but that made no differance. I did have one coil pack that was fulty and the naocom came up miss fire on 2+3 cylinders but not seen any missfire reports since I changed it.

Sounds like you're making progress. 1 problem at a time. Half the time a small issue seems to throw everything else out and then when you fix it everything mysteriously sorts itself out.

Not conviced the starter is shot and think the problems may be related. with a fully charged battery when i turn the key I hear a soliniod click then all lights go out on dash and nothing when I let go of key all dash lights come on as if I had just turned ignition on. when I had the miss fire I noticted that if I tride to rev engine the rev counter woul rise slitly then shoot to o then shoot back up again repetadly as if it was being turnd off and on. also I have read that you should not be able to remove the key unless the gear selector is in park but I can remove the key withit in any position. Time to study rave look what wires or solaniod could be at fult.

Check the under bonnet fuse box for signs/smells of burning. Otherwise a bad connection, corroded wire etc causing excessive volt drop

worn starter brushes causing a short in the starter motor or bad earth
Key can be removed when gear lever is in any position ( or it can be on my 1999 diesel )

starter sounds like iffy earth...which would cause no ends of trouubles..or iffy batt +ve connection..again cause no ends of grief..

may i suggest before outing it to me for afew quid that one starts simple..earth and +ve leads ..ecu plugged in proper like etc..

No time yesterday to have a fiddle but have been giving it some thought .so could it possibly be the realay for the ecu was switching off and on to give me a miss fire and now its switching off when I turn key to start? do you think that could be a possibility?

Relay 19 is the Engine Control Relay....swap it for another one of the same colour and see what happens!
