need to get my spare freelander up and running, I have a few spare wheels but not a set of 4 matching tyres, so as you should put your new tyres on the rear to prevent windup, would it be ok to put a pair of bigger profile tyres on the rear, my thinking is that there would be no windup just a delay in the vcu driving? Thoughts from you that know would be appreciated

You can only put new tyres on the rear, providing they match what is on the front. Fitting odd tyres will produce transmission wind up, regardless of which way the wind up happens.

That was in the back of my mind, I was just hoping as I have 4 pairs of tyres but each pair are a different size back to my search for a set

I'd just bite the bullet and get a new set of four and sell your two pairs to recoup some of what you've spent. Depending on what you want, I spent a little under £400 on my new tyres and whilst a fair bit of investment, the peace of mind of helping prevent very expensive drivetrain damage certainly helps justify the outlay.
