Hi guys,

I have been offered a Series 2A LWB that needs some work doing on it.

Just received the repair list from the garage with what is needed to get the old girl back on the road, i ll put the chassis work first and then the rest, bear with me, the list is epic.

O/S rear chassis leg at front mounting for spring rotten
O/S rear outrigger needs attention or replacing
O/S front chassis leg at rear spring hanger cracked on weld
O/S Front dumbiron rotten
N/S Front chassis leg at engine mount cracked on weld
Fuel tank front outrigger rotten

I cant afford a new chassis but i wonder i this one sounds too far gone, thoughts?

Now for the rest

Clutch Flexi Pipe needs replacing
Battery not secure
Front crank shaft oil seal leaking
Both front prop shaft UJ's worn
Rear prop shaft rear UJ worn
Both front shocker bottom bushes worn
N/S rear shocker bottom bush
Front Springs Seized up (need stripping and cleaning or replacing)
Front Spring shocker mounting plate cracked
N/S rear spring front bolt loose
Main Feed Brake Pipe from master cylinder to chassis t-piece corroded
Steering ball seals leaking (not excessive)
O/S rear drive flange leaking
Headlights not working
N/S rear Indicator lens discoloured
N/S Front indicator not working
N/S head lamp fixing screw missing

Phew!!! what a list, the garage has quoted me £900 to put all this right and they have a great reputation. Does this seem about right??

Any offers to do it cheaper much appreciated

So what do you think guys?

The rest of the Landy is in reasonable shape, (see pic) what are your thoughts on value??

I'd offer to do it if you were closer but £900 doesn't seem too bad

Shes currently sat in Harrogate.

I wholly agree that any Landy deserved to be loved, this is the only vehicle and even consider spending that much money on

What is it worth....? Its worth is only what each individual thinks it is to them. If you are looking to turn a profit, forget about it. If you are going to use it yourself you will have lots of immeasurable(big word) fun in it. I am doing a Landy resto and will probably end up spending more than that. £900 is very reasonable for that amount of work.

chassis is nowhere near as bad as mine was if i had a straight run at it i could do that welding list in roughly 1 1/2 days im sure crashbox would say the same

as for the rest of the list its all just little bits and bats i too am in the process of a resto project and heading into the final stage before the MOT

the big rule of series landys is if it runs right and drives right evrything else is easily sorted out enjoy coz once your bitten by the landy bug your infected fer life

£900 sounds a good price to me. Thing is you can guarantee that other issues will probably appear as they work on it. I think we all find that. I would work on the basis of £1200 to fix.

I think it's worth it providing you can afford it OK, after all she's a nice old Landy and deserves to be put back on the road. For £900 youd get an interesting Landy to drive with plenty of life in it....or you could buy a dull knackered small normal car which has no charactor and is dull to drive.

Ok guys so I ve decided I m going to have a go at getting her ,arching up the queens highway again, how much do you guys reckon it would cost just to get the chassis work done? I know it's impossible to be particularly accurate but best guess? Having researched everything else I think the rest of the stuff I can handle, (whilst making frequent trips here for advice)

At £900 considering you only want the chassis doing you could maybe save up a little longer and spend £1200 on a galvy chassis to it'll last longer ?

The other bits n bobs can be done by yourself and I'm sure you'll find all the details on them somewhere on this site

Would that £1200 include changing everything onto the new chassis?

No that would just be the chassis itself but you can easily swap a chassis yourself over a few weekends with some mates. I've seen it done in two days but that was 5 people and they had a forklift

There is also a lot of things on that list that are not failures. It seems that they have been very strict on everything. Your chassis really doesnt sound that bad
