If the rents get a d4 to replace the d3 I'll get to do the experience day, would be interesting to see what it can do compared to my defender I expect it's gonna be pretty mega offroad

D3 approach angle 37.2 degrees at best v Defender 48 at worst
D3 departure angle 27.9 degrees at best v Defender 49 at worst
D3 ramp breakover angle 152.1 degrees at best v Defender 145 at worst

I'll be amazed indeed if the D4 is much better.

Admitedly the electronics will make it better in a lot of circimstances all that is except for the above. ;)

yeah thats obviously where the defender will be better, but i bet the D4 will climb and grip better and be 'easer' to offroad

I did the basic course at Gaydon and the advanced at Milton Keynes, both in a Defender 110, on the latter there was a guy at the intial briefing who was on his comp half day having just bought a freelander. He was very apologetic and almost embarrassed, and was quick to point out he wasn`t a hairdresser. The instructor (Darryl, another top guy) said he had nothing to apologise for and should let the car do the talking - for a good couple of hours it just followed the Defender around the course without any obvious problems I could see.

The newer Defenders with the electrickery yes. I don't think the D4 will be any better or easier to offroad. Having said that I don't think they'll be any worse either.

Like I said the cross axle bit my 1999 TD5 Defender might not have failed but. It most definetly wouldn't have done it soo easily

There was another bit too with rollers set on one side of the track on an incline, again I think I could have done it in my Defender but it would have been a lot more difficult than it was in the Freelander

hahah, here waspy's!
But i like me folks gaylander2 HSE too:eek:

Before Goony and Si catch me some wasps  :D:D

I still wouldn't swap my Defender for one though :D

"Why not??" I hear you ask
"if as you say the Freelander is so good"

a, I love off roading too much to be restricted by the Freelanders ground clearance.
b, I'd be worried about scratching and denting the Freelander.
c, Would a Freelander tow an artic up an icy road?
and
d, I bloody hate electrickery gizmos my TD5 has too many

"Er so why are you going to buy one then?"

It's the Doris, she wants one  :D
It will replace the mondeo and be on caravan towing duty and she's going to let me get a project vehicle.

So I'm looking for a nice series IIa to restore  :D :D :D
