Local landrover garage quoted 20500 to fit a new engine as at time thought Was siezed so no way could afford that so this garage offered 3995 with a serviceable block which was only option to me finance wise but reading posts after researching it seems to be a common fault he tells everyone with a dpf filter....
Reading comments left there is no malicious reporting in this.... I just got unlucky and went to wrong garage.. Just wouldn't want this happening to anyone else... The police have put a report In Down south but if its a big scale theft then its not going to be a next day thing to sort out... Learnt since then they were In court jam with selling stolen cars and police know about them but how they Continue to trade... I don't know...
I've just re-read this and I think you need to be naming and shaming your local garage! You could buy another Disco for less than that. Looks like they are also rip off merchants.
When you get your next green oval , come back to us for trusted, proven , LR specialists. Or even for help to do the work yourself.

But , you know the price of the help ;)

I imagine garages on the Isle of Skye charge a lot, due to lack of competition and high carriage charges for parts.

Personally, I couldn't understand why he didn't go with block replacement on a vehicle of that age. Barely worth a new injun, I would have thought.

There's a lot and there's A LOT. I know I have a fair hike to get to my nearest specialist but even my nearest, island based, ferry dependant, without a bridge, non-specialist wouldnt charge over £20k for an engine replacement.

No idea what a reconned engine for one of those would cost. And I imagine they would want to change some other stuff with the engine, in order to avoid warranty comeback.
Very difficult to say when we haven't seen the vehicle, it may be absolutely hanging.

Does seem like a lot to spend on a vehicle that age, though.

I have no idea but I know when my engine was ruined and after all the faffing about, it cost me just under £2k for a 2nd engine and I think it was just under another thousand to have it fitted. The sad story is on here somewhere, but I cant remember the actual prices. So even with the first garage stealing approx £3k , all in all it was no more than 6 or 7 thousand.

Just been looking into it, I am not sure exactly what engine that has in it. But a 4.0 range rover engine short block recon seems to be about £3,250+vat from Turner.
So even allowing for a recon gearbox and ancillaries, and labour, you appear to be right, that is a bit OTT.

Christ 20k...my mate bas would fly from here in the Algarve and do the job for that...thats a ridicual price...just done a body off rangie replacement engine charged nothing like that and engine shipped from uk to Algarve...

when i wrote.. I'm no the first and won't be the last....i was meaning to be scammed ..

Any developments from the police about their enquiries?

Also, have you got some pictures of the vehicle before it was sent off, just for our general interest.
I for one have no experience at all of that sort of vehicle, and imagine many of the other regulars don't, either.

No idea about tracking. I have read that it is possible for the manufacturor to locate, and interface with, very expensive tractors from remote.
But I have no idea if and when the technology might have been installed on Discos.
Might be worth a call to your local JLR dealer about that option.

Hi... Do you go near that garage

Not really it's the other side of town but no great shakes to take a ride over. Prob be after Christmas now though pal.

Edit- if the wife gets up soon (night shift) I'll take a look cuz traffic looks ok
