Discovery II Td5:-

What is the Landrover Protocol for the OBD for Td5, that others don't comply when using a Fault Code Reader other than Nano and Hawkeye etc.

Seen alot of hype of this, but no explanation.

thanks

Land Rover products were not OBD compliant until - from memory - 2005 with the advent of Disco III.

As a result you need dedicated LR product diagnostic kit to effectively analyse LR products pre 2005.

You should also bare in mind that OBD and OBD III are only engine/emissions related - so if you want to buy a fully useful terminal that will interrogate all electronic systems on a, for example Disco II, you should be thinking about Nano Evo, Hawkeye or now Lynx.

Thanks,

I use equipment for both PSA (Citroen/Peugeot) and another for VAG (Audi/Skoda/VW).

These plug into the OBD port and can access various systems whether its engine related, brake system, door locks and heater controls etc. operated with software from a laptop.

Many people say Landrover has a special Protocol for its OBD comunication, so is it within its interface or pinouts of the OBD connection.

Yet I've seen some use a basic code reader with some results, which is why I asked about the Protocol. Yet the Discovery II and Defender with the Td5 has OBD..

thanks

It has an OBD shaped socket, doesn't mean that the various computers used the full OBDII protocol.

The D2 predates the requirement for OBDII compatibility. The protocols are indeed proprietary, you need one of the specific readers (Testbook, Hawkeye, Nanocom or Lynx).
