My wife drives a 2005 freelander HSE TD4 it has circa 88,000 on the clock.
Bought it about 10 months ago and it was mint, it went for a health check about 6 months ago at a local 4x4 garage and they confirmed its condition.
About a month ago we started to have a problem where the engine management light would come on at approx 2500 rpm and it would be unresponsive on the throttle pedal. I must have read 100`s of post on this which steered the fix towards either fuel filter replacement first then such things as the fuel pressure switch.
It was not obvious when the fuel filter was last replaced so I had the vehicle serviced all well and good.
The car run for about a day before the light came back on , my wife took it straight back to the garage where it had been serviced so he could put it on the diagnostic machine.
The diagnostic test indicated the fault to be on the fuel pressure sensor. In order to prove the fault he "reset" it and told us to try it.
We took the vehicle home , it ran for again about a day and the fault reappeared but this time no engine management light come on, it also appeared to be sluggish right from tick over i.e. before it got to 2500 rpm. Its booked in to go back to the garage this Thursday.
Here`s the thing - jumped in it Saturday afternoon started it up and it run faultlessly , likewise yesterday , back to its original performance and its quick for a freelander. No issues right through the rev band ?
The only difference between between last week and the weekend has been the weather , wet last week warm and sunny over the weekend - could this be related to the fault somehow?
Should I just get the fuel pressure sensor replaced ?
Any ideas or thoughts on the above would be greatly appreciated
