Would possible and would it be a big job to change to a disco transfer box?
That makes sense, interesting to know!
My 200TDI ,(out of a Defender) is a replacement for the 2.5TD. Bubbles along at 55-60 quite happily if I push her up to 70 she starts to scream a bit so I rarely go above 60. Thats a 200TDI into a 1987 90 with no other Modifications. I have 15" rims but I cant remember the Tyre height.
I have a 200tdi in my '87 and with the 1.4 tbox it screamed at anything over 45 so I put in a 1.2 tbox and now it'll sit at 50-60 comfortably. Wonder what might be different? Diffs maybe? I think mine are standard but can't really be sure
That doesn't sound right i would have thought with a 1.2 tranny box it would happly sit at 80 +, my 1988 90 with i think is a 1.4 tranny box ( no serial no stamped or sticker ) will start to scream at around 65 and can easily carry on up to 80 so something doesn't sound right to me there.
there could be a chance someone has fitted series diffs for what ever reason or your tranny box is not a 1.2
std diffs on a 90 should be 3.54-l meaning 3.5ish full rotations of the prop to 1 full rotation of the wheel, series diffs are 4-1 meaning 4 full rotation of the prop to 1 full rotation of the wheel, if that makes cense
What is considered the standard defender diff? 1:2, 1:4, 1:6?
What's acceleration with the 1.2 like?
Hi guys the tyres are 205 80 16. The diffs are all the old 10 spline ones.
I don't think I'll change the transfer box I'm happy cruising at 50 with the stereo turned up lol.
I'm looking at caravans so it may come in handy for towing that?
Thanks, I'll get counting!
